I have a 100 watt heat bulb, on the box it says 6 inches for 87 to 95 so that's where I put it. My house temp is noremaly around 70-75 is that a good healthy temp range. I do have a heat pad but he doesn't seem to care for it.
Will my tort be active if his ecloser 70 with a basking spot of 85.
My tort is being "lazy" after I moved him to a much bigger encloser last weekend, he wont get up if i dont lay him in his heat lamp, but he does sit in his little whole he makes every night and look aroud, also he will eat, and...
I would strongly advise that you get uvb for your tort, they need it for like 14 hours a day. You can buy the bulb at amazon for around 20$ and wallmart sells heat lamps (with no bulb) that uvb will work in for 6$.

Ya he did try to escape alot before, in his first too small encloser so maybe he just has some chipping from that, The last time I tried peet moss (for a difforent tort) I was down for like 3 days. I have really bad allerdies so dusty stuff just kills me:shy:
Hi my russian tortoise shell is starting to chip, is thhis bad if so how bad, can i fix it on my own? should i take him to the vet or just leave it alone?

So i put the cypress in his pin and after checking it out, he started to pace the ground
trying to escape! he only tried on the right side where he could see my wall, is this normal? I read some where that this happens if the cage is to small, and I have read that the bin should be 5 of him...
Thanks again guys i got the cypress mulch and he seems to like it more than sand.
The mulch i got is 100% cypress and 100% natural. and thanks for the further temp advise.
Thanks every one for the advise. I'm not sure if he's from a breeder but I got him in the winter so I don't think he was imported, I called the week before i got him and they said they had none there. I'm getting cypress mulch today so thanks for telling me about the moisture.
Thank you, i got him at petco they had not had him long, so he was still perfectly heathy from the breeder, he's doing really good and i've had him for about a mouth now.
Thanks for the links, I sadly don't have a temp gun but i do have the four zones in the bin, i will try to get a temp gun as soon as I can. also what do you think I should use other than sand? cypress bedding is one i've heard of a lot what do you think of it.
