Thanks for the advice about Petco!
As fat as outside it is slightly damp still and occasional wind. I am going to build an outdoor enclosure but in the meantime I don't want him to have to sit inside all day so I am giving very closely supervised outside time. I've only been taking him out...
The problem I have is that it isn't very warm yet. There is almost no sun by the time I am home to take him out. Very overcast and pretty chilly.
If there would be other torts present would no contact be okay? Or would you suggest avoiding altogether? I know the risk of "cross contamination"...
Another pic! [hr]
Not sure on age as the people at Petco didn't know. Approximately five inches on his under belly. No bigger than the palm of my hand.
I'm planning on giving my Russian lots of supervised outside time until I get his outdoor setup running. How long is too long to be out of the heat. It isn't particularly warn here in Oregon yet but I still feel it is important. Also I was planning on taking a field trip to Petco for their...
Boy or girl??[hr] got at Petco. Unsure of age but they said he is smaller than the usual tortoise in there. He/she is a Russian an seems healthy to me but I'm nit a seasoned tort veteran! Hehe

So apparently they didn't hold Harold for me. So I got another whom I think might be Harriet. I'll post pictures once he/she settles in a bit.
Update:
Couldn't resist a quick photo shoot!

Well I live in Salem. My backyard gets a lot of sun after midmorning through the end of the day. There is a very shady part due to trees and then a part with full sun. I'm worried about the fact that the weather can change so drastically within the course of a day. Sun to chilly and rain.
How...
I was hoping I could find a pacific NW buddy who understands the weather and might be able to give me advice on outdoor housing here in Oregon. I'm getting a Russian and the indoor setup is good but I would like to have both.
Got the coconut stuff. It's called Eco earth and it was from petco. It came in a brick and then you soak it in water. Now my humidity is up to somewhere around 55%. Too high for a Russian? It's airing out for now but there is a good chance I am getting him on Saturday so I will need to figure...
How would I go about doing this? I'm getting a Russian an I want to house him outside during the day and bring him in at night.
I live in Oregon and I would say the average temperature is around the mid to upper 80's. During the summer at least. Winter this won't be possible as it will be lower...
There's the picture and I'm not sure of the size. I'm going to check him out this week and if all goes well adopting this weekend when I am paid. And it is the tortoise by itself.
The room is fairly cold now but the summer hasn't really started here. Winters get pretty cold. Not always snow but the room will be very warm from the use of a space heater.
I live in Salem, Oregon.
I am getting a Russian tortoise. About two years old according to the current owner.
I am new to tortoises and I would just like to say I have the money to pay for everything but who doesn't want to save some money?
Note: I don't have the tortoise yet I am still working on it's enclosure first.
I know not to even consider skimping on a good UVB light but as far heat/light...
