    Pretend chat 2

How's it going all? Spent the last few days gardening mostly, enjoying the great weather. Toby is loving to be finally back outside again up here in the cold north! I picked a great deal of dandelions the other day for both myself and Toby. I personally love to batter and fry the buds, and use...

    This cactus for my redfoot?

I'm not sure right off the type of cactus, but as far as I know, most cacti are quite good for torts. I always give them a good once over to remove the spikes, just in case.

    Somewhat frequent yawning?

Very active! She's really wanting it to warm up so she can go outside. It's almost only when basking that she yawns. Seems like she's relaxing, but I just wanted to make sure. I know it can be a symptom of RI, but she doesn't have any symptoms of that at all. On a humorous note, it makes me...

    Somewhat frequent yawning?

Probably overthinking this. But lately it seems my RF has been yawning more and for longer periods. Mostly when she's basking. It's kind of alarming, She does this thing where she moves her jaw a bit. She has absolutely no other symptoms, and is otherwise perfectly healthy. Problem or not...

    RI? Or something in nose?

I'll up her humidity a bit. It has been quite dry out here lately? That could be it. So it doesn't sound like anything too serious?

    RI? Or something in nose?

Well, I am probably overthinking this. But I thought I'd ask you guys anyway. My tortoise Toby, who is kept in great conditions (Better than her daddy!) and eats like a queen (Healthily that is) and has no health problems had a bit of a wheezing..or maybe just deeper breathing sound for...

    Snail plus turtle

I know my Stinkpot would eat any sort of fish that she could possible eat given her size. A significantly larger fish? That can work. Sometimes people put Oscars in with them. (This all depends on your type of turtle) Snails, though....I'm pretty sure most, if not all turtles would eventually...

    Look what I found today....

Unfortunately, I've heard they have a lot of people that catch them..Mostly for meat, I believe. :/ Very good save. Beautiful girl, and I hope she makes a full recovery. :]

    White Algae?

Forgive me, these aren't the best pictures. But the best I could manage with my phone. :( She's quite small, of course, being a young Stink Pot. Her scutes appear to be getting ready to shed, again. Hard to see it in the pictures, but I can tell by feeling them. As you can see, around the...

    White Algae?

So, even with the extensive cleaning. Like a lot of turtles, mine occasionally gets a bit of green algae on her shell. I usually just clean it off, no big deal. Lately she has gotten a bit of whiteish colored algae on her shell, or at least I believe it to be algae? Looks the same, only white...

    Letting them roam

I let mine walk around the room now and then, for a little fun. As long as you keep a close eye, it's generally fine. :)

HELP! My tortoise had a big fall

I'd say he's probably in the clear, but it's definitely worth it to get it checked out. I one time had a Red Eared Slider take a similar fall. I was only about 11, and I let him walk around on our porch, took my eye off him for one minuet, he went off. He landed on some soft stuff, and ended up...

Trying to decide on first tortoise

I'd say go with the leopard or a red foot then. :) You seem to want a leopard, and I think you'd be quite happy with one and take good care of it, just fine.

Does anyone "preserve" their tort or turtle after it passes away?

Cremation or burial of my pets, for me. I'd feel equally uncomfortable with doing such as I would having one of my cats or dogs that has passed stuffed, and kept in the living room. =/

    Pyramiding

It will be less noticeable as the tort grows and gets older, but it doesn't go away, so to speak. Thankfully, unless there is MBD, it's generally just cosmetic. When I first got my Redfoot, she was about 7, and a bit small for her size, with a decent amount of pyramiding. As she's gotten...

Trying to decide on first tortoise

I care for a Redfoot indoors in cold climate, jsut fine. (Outside in summer, of course.) But they are smaller than Yellowfoots, and require slightly different needs. Perhaps a Hermann's? They are definitely on the easier to care for and small size. But I think of the choices you've mentioned...

HELP! My tortoise had a big fall

It's definitely worth having him checked out. If he's acting fine, still. He's probably managed to get away fine from it all. My advice would be the following: 1. Take him to a vet who knows reptiles, preferably a specialist. 2. Either have them identify the type of tortoise, or post...

    Shell regrowth

Entirely depends on location and just how small it is. Regardless, I'd keep a close eye on them. If it's fighting, it's very unlikely for it to be a one time event between turtles. From what I've read, it's almost always going to keep going and get worse.

    they found the Ex-LAPD cop

My sentiments exactly. Sad no matter how you look at it. Injustice no matter how you look at it. A great failure all in all by the LAPD, once again. Not much pains me more than injustice in the justice system. Be it police brutality, people getting away with things they obviously did, or...

Say a prayer for the red & yellow foots

I agree. It's the way it is. If you get down to technicality, it isn't much different at all than eating cattle, pork, etc. See in some cultures, eating cattle is taboo. In some, it's pork. In others it's fish, etc, etc. While completely against eating meat myself, I fully support others...
