    Underbite...when should I worry?

Ok guys, I posted this many months ago, and tried trimming. He is also living outside more now, so I hoped more natural feeding would help. I don't see a lot of improvement. I don't really have a good vet here in Richmond, VA, and I don't want to spend a ton of $$ on someone who doesn't know...

Should I keep my baby sulcata tortoise outside or inside?

That looks like a different tortoise...

    Underbite...when should I worry?

Hi all! I have a sulcata that is about 3.5 years old now. She is doing well, eating and growing, and has a great personality. For about the last year, I've noticed she has an underbite. I searched online for a long time, and the general consensus I found was that as long as she was...

How much room do you really need?

Did you seal the floor somehow, or is the mulch directly on it? I have recently adopted a large sulcata and am still perfecting his indoor habitat. I'm also in Richmond! Hello neighbor!

    Heat Mat

Thanks for the input guys....I will just save up for a Kane mat. I've kept reptiles for years, and actually SEEN a cheapo zoo-med heat pad short out and catch fire. Could have been a LOT worse if I didn't happen to be there when it happened.

    Heat Mat

Any clue where I can find a Stansfield for that price? Every one I've seen is in the $100 or more range. I already have a good rheostat.

    Heat Mat

So I've been considering getting a heating pad for my sub-adult sulcata. He is about 16" long and somewhere around 30#. I found this one, and it's a good deal cheaper than the Kane pads.....any thoughts? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=14660242&findingMethod=rr

New 18" male sulcata...a few questions

I feel bad for him. On top of everything else he went through, his shell is somewhat deformed, and he is showing what MIGHT be signs of MBD. I don't know what, if any UVB he got....and the very "top" scute on his back has some suspicious spots that look like they might peel off. I suspect he...

New 18" male sulcata...a few questions

Yeah....I wasn't sure if they needed the hot spot at night. I guess I will either get a CHE or a pad, if I get good recommendations....

New 18" male sulcata...a few questions

So I got this guy last week. He is about 18" long and maybe 20 pounds? He was being housed in a garage in a 2' x 4' tub, with only a lamp for heat. The old owner told me that once or twice a week he would feed him a head of romaine lettuce and some mazuri. Since getting him, I've soaked...

    Help plan for rescue

Well day one is going well. I'm in the middle of setting up an enclosure in the reptiles room. In the mean time, he had a stroll in the yard this morning where he ate a bite of mazuri and a couple bites of pumpkin. After that he went in the tub for a soak, and drank for what seemed like...

    Help plan for rescue

Yeah, unfortunately I don't know a whole lot of his history. He is heavy for his size, which is hood. His shell has some pyramiding and a few spots where the scutes are a bit flaky. He ate today, and I'll gradually work him into a healthy daily diet. I have a sneaking suspicion that...

    Help plan for rescue

I am going to get some hay today or tomorrow. I know that I don't want Alfalfa....just a mixed orchardgrass hay should do well, right? I believe that's available at the local feed stores.

So a friend of mine went and picked him up....and he isn't AS bad as I thought....though he does show some shell deformity.

    Help plan for rescue

Actually the floor would be ideal.... Since it requires the least amount of prep. I was thinking I had to build some kind of box... But that's way easier. The lowest near me actually has cypress mulch really cheap... So I could do plastic sheeting with several inches of mulch on top. I...

    Help plan for rescue

Hi guys, I have been put in contact with someone locally who has a sulcata he is getting rid of. He has it living in his garage currently with a light for heat. I asked for pictures, but he doesn't have any. I asked if the shell was pyramided, he says it's nice and smooth, and the...
