    Sqeaking sounds??

Is it colder than usual? Sometimes my Sulcatas get lazy and lethargic when the weather is wintery, even though their enclosure stays at 90 degrees. I wouldn't worry unless he stops eating. Just keep soaking him and keep him warm. And make sure he has UVB/UVA or just some real sunlight. It's...

    Our new family member!!

I just rescued a 5 and a half year old Sulcata today! He is quite pyramided, but otherwise healthy, active, social and really really cool!!! I now have 4 "special" Sulcatas. A 3-legged 3.5 year old, a healthy 8mo hatchling, and a sick little hatchling that I've been trying to nurse back to...

Looking for cheap, sturdy fencing ideas!

JD, WOW! You're yard is gorgeous!!!! Can you come landscape mine?? Haha! Thanks for all the tips. The garden is just weeds right now until April or so, so we have plenty of time to figure something out. Hopefully Tilt will help us clean it up in the meantime ;) all of those sound like huge...

Looking for cheap, sturdy fencing ideas!

I am rescuing a 100+ lb Sulcata. I have three others, but this will be my first adult. I'm extremely excited, but there is work to be done. My backyard is already secure, we have brick walls all around the perimeter. We plan to allow him to roam freely back there, but I have a vegetable garden...

Ever been bit by your tort?

At the reptile store, I absentmindedly attempted to pet one of the gigantic Sulcatas on display. I startled him, and he flinched with his mouth open towards my hand. I pulled it away fast enough, but I may have been bitten if I hadn't.

    Sad Reality

Thank you all so much for your kind words! Mainey: I am in Southern California. Emysemys: can you give me more information on gradual humidity for chronically dehydrated tortoises? I've never heard that and would really like to read up on it. Looneybug: you're little sick one is in my...

    Sad Reality

Austin: I didn't mean for it to sound bashing. I just wanted to share my experience. I'm sorry if it came off that way. Really though, why are people on this thread always finding something wrong with everything someone posts? It seems like every poor poster on here has a negative comment on...

    Sad Reality

I have a huge terrarium and love my Sulcatas. When my first Sulcata grew out of it and moved outside, I was incredibly excited to raise my next baby. Of course, I wanted the best deal. So I did my "bargain hunting" and found a guy on Craigslist selling his babies for only $40 each. That was my...

    Hatchling Growth Rates

Tom, you say the tortoises are selected from several different clutches. Is it possible that 5 are from a very healthy sulcata, 5 from a mediocre sulcata and 4 are from a weak sulcata?

    Strange tortoise names

My brother would laugh at this, he's always saying I like raising torts so I can make soup out of them.

Proof my tort is smarter than my dogs

This may true about them being smarter eaters.. Especially since my puppy eats and swallows paper before i can take it away, while my tortoises have never done something quite so dumb. But then again, my dog can fall over on his back and get up again. Turtles just get permanently stuck. :p

    Racoons on Tortoise

I've always wanted a pet raccoon. They're so cute, like having a cuddly toddler in the house. :)

Redid my enclosure and some questions!

How are you keeping the humidity so high? I'm just curious. I have trouble keeping mine past 50% on the warm end and I have a terrarium like yours, with a humidifier on 24/7. Maybe it's because mine is at 110 degrees?

Hatchling living with 1 year old

Maybe getting 2 hatchlings could help balance out the rivalry of a pair? It's a gamble tho, you never know how it could turn out. I housed my two hatchlings with my 5" juvenile while he waited for his outdoor enclosure to be finished. They tolerated each other fine. He seemed a bit annoyed tho...

Hatchling with bubbles on his nose

My sulcata baby is about 4 months old. For the past 2 weeks, he's been less active, and on Thursday I noticed his nose was running. Yesterday I completely changed their home; from an open top tub that could only get to about 85 degrees to a terrarium, so that I could keep him warmer. The warmest...
