At some point I would like our CDT to remain outside throughout the night. I am going to monitor temps in the burrow for a few weeks to see how low it gets. I am curious as to how low a temp is considered acceptable in order for him to remain in it over night?
He is at least 50 years old, and...
We recently adopted a CDT, age = at least 50 years old. He eats dry grass: Timothy, Oat, Bermuda, as well as green Bermuda, and grazes in the yard for other weeds. He eats SO much that I have resorted to harvesting weeds at places where I know no chemical are used. I did purchase weed seed...
I rescued Flip 3 years ago a an injured barely yearling and nursed him to great health....all was well, good appetite, poops activitiy...I cam home from work today to find him flaccid, apparently not breathing and eyelids at half mast...he doesnt hibernate and I keep him with all the appropriate...
Flip has been with me since Jan 2010, I adopted him from the CTTC, he was barely a yearling and was mauled by a coyote or dog...He was vet checked and followed for a year and has grown by leaps and bounds...he eats great, but I am noticing him in his water dish a lot this past week...do I need...
We have just been through such worry about our yearling CDT. He went off food and then couldn't poop for 3 days...I soaked him Saturday/Sunday in vitamin water 3xd and made a little enema tube and shot mineral oil in there as best I could...this morning in the soak he passed poop, yay...But now...
My normally active yearling CDT has been off food now for the 2nd day. I didn't worry day one, as sometimes he east less in a day than other days. I gave him a good soak yesterday...no poo, today I have soaked him and noticed him trying to pass poo, I just now looked and can see him opening...
We rescued little Flip the CDT on January 28th of this year. His plastron was quite soft ( not transparent thank goodness ). Took him to the vet and followed ALL instructions to the nail.
Temps not lower than 75F
An excellent diet
Daily sunshine ( if possible )
Liquid Calcium Glubionate...
Googootz has lived solo in his own place since I rescued him last August. Along came a 5 year old female 3 months ago. They have both had vet checks and are quite healthy.
I have attempted to introduce them to each other, on neutral territory. Goo just goes right after her to ram her. I...
Little CDT Flip found his cuttlefish bone today! I was rally happy to see it well chomped on, and white all around his little mouth! Of course I am still giving liquid calcium as per vet's instructions, but this really made me happy to see!
Does anyone here have experience with medicating a tortoise for soft plastron? I am doing just that and curious as to the approx. time interval for plastron hardening/health.
Thank you!
The hand warmers that I purchased did not work very well ( when the power went out )...
Can any of you recommend a brand heat packs that do work well and stay warm for 8 hours?
I have had this yearling CDT for one week. A rescue from CTTC. He was chewed up by a dog, and is healing well. His plastron was soft, so I took him to see Dr. Kathy Calvert in Felton Ca. She is wonderful, 5 stars.
He weighs 190 gms.
He was given a vitamin D and B complex shot. I asked...
Here is a photo of the damage done to this CDT by a dog ( or coyote ). He was turned over to a rescue and was adopted by me on Saturday.
We have a vet check this coming Friday Jan. 29, hope we get good news. He seems to be doing quite well, sans a loose feeling plastron, which I am hoping...
This little 4" CDT I brought home from rescue is really cute. Despite his chewed up scutes he motates around nicely. I did notice that when I picked him up to wash poo off his tail, that when he moved his arms and legs I could feel movement in the carapace, almost if it were jointed.
Is...
Meet Maxi,
Picked him up yesterday from SV CTTC. This little 4" fellow was mauled by a dog and has some right hind scute damage. We are going to provide him with the best we can, and hope for the best!
Googootz & Flor eat like pigs! I am amazed at how much these little torts can eat! I pick tons of weeds AND buy organic greens ( they LOVE mache ), is this normal behavior or have I raised little gluttons? Also "Flor" the female makes huge poops, 4 1/2" nicely formed poo!
