I just got my first sulcata tortoise in the beginning of December. I have been feeding him spring mix, endive, collard greens, kale, cilantro, and zoomed tortoise food. My little guy has been growing steadily about 50 grams per month and he has a smooth shell so far. I think when I feed him...
I am keeping an eye on it but haven't taken him to the vet. There are hardly any vets around here and no vets that specialize in torts. He seems fine though, he eats and acts normal.
Wow that is interesting to see the difference and how the bigger one is actually the smaller one now. I don't mind how fast or slow my little Sheliford grows as long as he is healthy.

Ok great thanks. I don't mind if my little Sheliford grows fast or slow as long as he seems to be...
Hmm I guess that is another way to do it. I figure he is growing like a weed so he must be healthy. I was more just curious about other sulcata's and their growth and how it compares to my little Sheliford.
I know that weight varies between each tortoise but I'm just curious about how much other babies gain each month. My sulcata is about 5-6 months old. He seems to gain about 50 grams per month give or take a few. Right now he weighs in at 255 grams. Anyway just curious. I'm also wondering if...
I didn't save the little piece. Its not bleeding or anything and he ate his food right after his bath. I took a few photos but it is hard to get a tort to cooperate and get his mouth open for a picture. So this is about as good as I can get of it.
Ok so I noticed yesterday that there was a little tiny piece of something on my sulcata's bottom part of his mouth. Well today I saw it was still there. It looked like a piece of dried food so I pulled it off. Well come to find out the piece was not food but it was actually his bottom beak...
Now that I know he does it I hope to get a video of it. Definitely so cute. I don't really want anything deeper cause I think I would worry.

How old is your baby?
Ok so does anyone else's sulcata go into the water dish and literally splash the water up on themselves? I heard splashing coming from his enclosure and I go over and he is in the water dish laying down and using his front feet or paws or whatever you call them and he was splashing the water...
RE: 5-6 months ols
Thanks :) Ever since I bought him I worried about pyramiding. Thankfully none so far. So hopefully he won't have any. I try to keep his enclosure moist.

Honestly I don't think it is anything but part of his head. I think in the picture it makes it seem really...
RE: 5-6 months ols
Well I got him in December and the weather has not been very warm until the last couple of days. So no not any sun. He does have the UVB bulb. Now that it is getting warmer he will be out more often. I don't mind his color, and I have read that it might just be...
RE: 5-6 months ols
Thanks :) I will definitely keep everyone updated. He is my little baby.

Definitely have to give thanks to you and all your advice. You definitely helped me out the first couple of months with answering any questions and helping me to take care of him better :)
I received my adorable little guy when he was a baby so he was maybe a month or two and that was December 3rd. He is doing great. He eats like crazy and today he weighed in at 205 grams. He was about 35 grams when we first got him. I thought he had a ri in January but it turned out to be...
Yeah I guess I'll be complaining about the opposite problem in a few months :) At least by then my grass will be green.
[hr]
Yep, sure will. I think when it gets to that point I'll just have to buy a big bale of hay.
HHmmm I never thought about that but yeah I would think they could keep for a while. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm gonna have to try that. Thanks for the suggestion :)
Haha thanks for the advice. Well I would like to grow some myself but don't really have time to tend to it. So that also rules out getting another tortoise. Three dogs, a fish tank full of fish and one tortoise is enough for right now :) I love cilantro but only my son and I eat it so we...
