Thanks! I never tried the fake plants only because I figured if they could uproot the real plants, they'd knock over and destroy the fake plants just as easily. Once I get some extra money in, I'll have to try redoing the entire enclosure. There are still boatloads of pillbugs in the enclosure...
I can update stats if interested. Other than that, their enclosure is pretty cruddy. Their 6'x9' enclosure, which was amazing when they were little is now too small to house both them and any type of plant. They're set in their types of personality and are no longer shy whatsoever. Shells are...
Nope! I don't always wear gloves when handling the torts. I just happened to be cleaning their water dishes before I measured and kept the gloves on. I normally wear gloves only when cleaning. I don't mind a little dirt and dried poop when handling the torts.. I just make sure to wash very well...
Yep. I think it's safe to say now that they're all female. I'm kinda glad since I was never interested in breeding. I've had one or two incidents of mounting, though. It was pretty odd to watch lol..
Sorry.. I was still editing my thread. My phone's been acting wonky so I switched it up onto the computer. The pink ball is tuna, the brown is mazuri, and the green is just mustard and collards glued into a ball with mushed up bananas. The blueberries were the first to go which is a good thing...
Jingle turned 4 years old today! Stats: 67.00 oz., 8-7/8", 0.848 ratio. I ran out of cake ideas so I thought I'd make a banana split for her. Unfortunately I didn't have any cherry tomatoes or strawberries for the "cherries". It was still a hit with the girls, though, and that's all that...
In the 2nd and 3rd year for my redfoots, I'd mix dried grass that I'd cut from my yard into mazuri. This was a bi-weekly thing. I ended up with rapid growth, anyway, but mostly smooth.
My biggest girl, Loki, turned 4 today. Stats: 126.80 oz., 11-5/16", 0.775 ratio.
Side profile. She's grown pretty smooth (for the most part) despite the fact that she has grown at an incredible rate.
It's a rare occurrence to allow her free roam of the house. But hey, it's her birthday! Five...
Glad to see you back, too! I'm very sure you're an accomplished tort momma by now; don't sell yourself short. Feel free to message me any time! And I'll be posting a little bit more in the next two months. I have 3 other tort birthdays coming up.
At this point, my indoor enclosure is barren! These girls have demolished everything I've attempted to do. I'm working on finding the money to either buy more plants and hang them very low or grow more plants from seed to do the same. It all takes time and despite the fact that, to me, it looks...
Sunset turned 4 years old today! Stats:
1 year: 7.55 oz., 4",1.044 (Donoghue ratio)
2 year: 32.40 oz., 6-1/2", 1.04
3 year: 71.90 oz., 8-7/16", 1.059
4 year: 122.45 oz., 10.25", 1.006
She was doing so well eating her cake until she decided to lay on it:
I'm going to guess that at this...
I'm sure the new growth will resolve itself with the improved husbandry. I'm fairly new to tortoise keeping but it would be interesting to find out why that "irregularity" happens.
**And I just re-read the original post. I want to see chunky leg pictures on that cutie pie by the end of the month!
What a sweet looking red! I'd love to see how much color she really has under all that dryness. Keep us updated and thanks for giving her a new life :)
3.5 inches per year?! You and I are no where near in the same league when it comes to tortoise growth! Yikes! I'm with you though. I wonder what my tortoises will max out at and when growth will finally start to significantly slow down.
Sorry I can't help with solutions but I, too, would love...
Lol! Those cakes are a once a year per tortoise thing! They normally get tuna maybe twice a month and a much smaller amount of Mazuri once a week. Fruits I go heavy on once every two weeks or if what I have is starting to go bad. The rest of the time it's greens, greens and more greens. And my...
Delayed post on Punch's 3 year birthday (March 7). Between being sick and having two other birthdays around the same time, it's been very busy. I didn't get her third year stats (I'm horrible) but the closest date was the monthly check-up on March 2: 79.80 oz., 9-3/16".
Sorry, no soak...
