    Are frogs a threat?

You know that never even dawned on me bioacumulation or sequestering of toxins from foods. It would make sence for Terrapene now that I think about it. Dart frogs, and Horned frogs use sequestering to obtain their toxins and Horned frogs have similar patterns/colors to Terrapene members.

Wildlife trappers-pest control and florda box turtles.

I'm not sure if Gopher Tortoises are matrilocal as Box Turtles are, but they do have relatively high reproductive potential under ideal conditions.

    Are frogs a threat?

Terrapene are some of the few species that can consume Bufo (though technically speaking if you are in N.A. north of Mexico they are not Bufo but Anaxyrus). They are often consumed by them in the wild.

Wildlife trappers-pest control and florda box turtles.

Yes sea turtles and American Box Turtle (Terrapene species) are matrilocal, which means they stay (generaly speaking) in the general area of the the nest site. Though there are members of Terrapene carolina that are known to wonder. These are known as transiants ( I dont think I spelled that...

    Ranavirus infections in Terrapene

Thank you for your sympathy. The servival of some still lends hope for the species. I diagnosed it based on symptoms and lethality. All Terrapene are potentially infected, as well as all other members of their lineage (N.A. Wood Turtles, Spotted Turtles,Blanding's Turtle and Bog Turtles) this...

    changes to envirnoment -

Mine will look around then find their water bowls after that they just go back to normal. Though most of the changes that occur in my pen are mostly related to growth of the plants and break down of logs and leaf litter.

    Long John Silver

The shell gravel us a good idea I used to mix clam, oyster and mussel shells in the sand for my old terrapins. It helps keep the pH up and helps to keep their crushing plates worn.

RE: Razors ans dbt"s No calcium power won't work by itself it is just one of the salts that are needed (calcium chloride).as far as the algae it could help but then you need to make sure they are getting enough protein.

Check to make sure your UVB lamp is working. Also try to get him to eat some pellets zoomed natural or hikari gold cichlid pellets work well. They are both fortified. Razors ans dbt"s

RE: Razors ans dbt"s They are physiologically adapted to brackish/saltwater. It is kind of like keeping puffer fish (like figure 8s) in fresh water they do okay though captive bred vs wild caught does not matter(in relation to freshwater) nor does it change their physiology. [hr] High...

    Razors ans dbt"s

RE: Razors ans dbt"s You really shouldn't keep razors with terrapins as they have different water requirements. The razors are fresh water turtles where as the terrapins are brackish water or saltwater depending on ssp and origin. You may have been told or read that keeping them in fresh water...

    What are these?

They are small not because of the tank but because of lack of UVB which leads to a vitamin d3 deficiency which in turn leads to a hypocalcimia. Thus to mbd. They are lucky to be alive if they are two years old most hatchlings die in about 6 months to a year without UVB. They are a very fast...
