No problem with the guidance/inspiration. It was pretty cool having someone want to build something similar and being able to contribute. I am really glad it turned out well for you!
I am building V2.0 right now, so you know what you have to look forward to soon!
How do you like that...
Right around 8 months now and Chuba Ghandi is now 252 grams (.55 lbs)! Will update his pics when he moves into his new enclosure in the next week or two.
Last month he had his first educational outing to a local private school. He was a huge hit and VERY social with the kids and the...
OK, finally getting started on Automated Enclosure 2.0, only 3 months behind schedule!
Things got a bit busy around here and I had to put off starting enclosure 2.0, but the parts are on order and on their way.
I hope to start next week on the actual build. Version 3.0 will likely get...
They make warm air humidifiers but you would be fine with a standard, the water is room temperature or warmer if you fill it with hot water. The heat in the enclosure is more than enogh to keep the vapor warm. I maintain between 85-95% humidity and have a range between 85 and 125 degrees in my...
Thanks for the input on the oils everyone.
If you want to see the pictures please visit this thread: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread-82894.html
They are the preliminary pictures but they turned out pretty nice.
Yes I do track him. Quite closely actually. I have a field journal for him, calipers, scale, thermometer, etc...

Thanks, he had a really good surgeon.
That is awesome Boda! Thank you so much! Chuba Ghandi is 190 g and I will measure him with the digital calipers tomorrow. We were drawn to him by the circles on his shell. Chuba doesn't climb too much but he will come to the window and "tap/scratch" the glass to get more food. It is amazing...
Hey I don't know where the cuttle bone steroids came from...
I don't worry about the tuck/deformation, we picked him for a reason and it has become much less noticable as he has grown and we couldn't be happier with him. Thanks for providing him to us! I was just impressed my phone picked it...
Natural? Not at all, Chuba is super vain, he has had 2 shell augmentation surgeries, a plastron tuck and a beak implant not to mention the horse steroids he's been taking like flintstone chewables...
Thanks for all the input. I am trying both methods and monitoring after each. Is coconut the only oil or will olive oil, etc. work? I picked up the vitashell
stuff as well.
Getting ready to shoot Chuba Ghandi with the high end Nikon's and decided to try my new Galaxy Note III camera out. The shots turned out pretty good for a phone I think. You can see some of the deformities he was born with so the detail level is pretty good. Focal length is a bit of an issue...
That looks to be concrete and/over wood with a glass or plexi front, is that correct?
If so you can use a special hole saw to put an opening in the back of the enclosure under the shelf but above your substrate level (just above works best in my experience) to insert a flex hose and attach the...
