Love love love this enclosure! I am not sure about where to put the heat but it's also my first winter and my larger tort is out in my office (a finished shed) and I worry that it might get too cool as well.
Wishing you the best in accommodating your tort through the winter successfully...
I'm in the same place and am trying to figure out now how to either raise the CHE heat lamp or lower his second floor to cool it a bit. I think mine gets to just over 100 as well on most days and stays in the 70s in the rest of the home.
What are you going to do to raise it?

He is active and eating. I will make sure his temps stay high enough at night and drop the humidity a bit.

Time to refresh his home a bit it looks like. I will do that tomorrow and...
Thanks!!! I'll be updating tomorrow on what's happening and if I'm too worried he will see the vet :(.
I'm thinking he might have something in his eye, dust maybe, so I'll keep soaking him and rinsing him a couple times a day and make sure his substrate is moist.

I was wondering the same thing - if it was too close. Here is the info on both lights
Zilla 17watt -t8 - bp. Tropical 25. It is a 30" single tube strip light
Heat is a 100w heat emitter model ce-190.

And no they have been being used since I got him
I have had my baby t since late June (he hatched late May) and I have been caring for him the same way the entire time. However this morning when I picked him up to bring him outside I noticed he did not want to open one of his eyes. I Immediately soaked him and ran some warm water on his face...
So do you leave them out all night? I ask as eventually I would like to as well but the garden I have made doesn't really lend itself to any sort of cover. Does the box hide work well enough for protection and do you heat it?

Ok this might sound silly but do many of you let them roam around inside freely? I worry about losing them in my house and also if they poop... I have kids and other pets as well so I just wonder if they'd like it... But am trying to work out what to do for winter as I don't want to hibernate...
Thanks I feel better now about that. Still need to worry about how to handle the care in general that they were providing.

So I was so excited to find this local reptile store and took my boys there this weekend to check things out. I was looking to see if they had torts and if so was going to keep them in mind for future tort purchases, but is what I found made me sad. They have many reptiles and it appeared they...
Wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the marinated and Russian torts? I was in a pet store this week end and the had some marinated hatchlings in with Russians.. This worries me a bit but I will explain that more in a different thread.
Updated the t homes today. Mr t needed more dirt to help keep him humid and warm at night. Baby t needed more so he could bury himself. And lastly I finally bought a mister attachment to my drip system so their outside garden stays moist. No better way to spend a Sunday then playing with torts!
Thanks for this tip as I want to expand my outdoor space but need to put something along the fence first. This looks easy :)
