The only place I call out 2x2 is the interior framing of the lid. This gives you something to screw the interior ply wood to on the lid under side. The rest is 2x4 framing.
I added an 8 inch exhaust fan to mine over the summer to pull in air. I also added a layer of radiant barrier under the top sheet of wood. To reflect of the infrared light back out. I moved to a new house and my yard was less shaded. So it was getting alot of direct sun light and getting hot...
You can move the door to the ends or wherever. Mine is at 1 end. My Sulcatas are only about 20 lbs. I made a 26in door but then framed it with a 2x4 on top and one side to make the entrance smaller until they get bigger. Just for energy efficiency purposes...
Awesome photos and the shell growth looks great! I actually have 4torts . 2 sulcata named Funyun and Sirracha. 1 leopard named Cheeto. 1 red foot named Cilantro. The red foot is my current baby.
The bigger one on the left is age is unknown. The lady that gave her to me said she only had him for a couple months and the people she bought it from said they had it for 4 or 5 years. Which is hard to believe at 350 grams. He was very malnourished, parasites, dehydrated and kept dry...

Hey @Tom I built your 4x8 heated night box last fall and its been great the tortoises stopped digging burrows and use the shelter exclusively. My question is, have you had any over heating in yours with direct sun light in the summer. I of course turn off all the heat for the summer but mine is...
I'm selling my indoor tortoise enclosure. I built this a few years back and no longer need. Has 2 sockets for lights or Ceramic Heat Emitters. Easy to maintain humidity. I raised 2 baby sulcatas, a leopard and a redfoot in it. Interior is treated with Truck bed liner spray for moisture...
Once they are ready to be separated we are going give them away to good homes. I think I have 3 already claimed. So just 2 more to find homes for when the time comes. My wife and I decided we will get the momma fixed and keep her. She is a very affectionate sweet heart.
Remember that stray cat living in my tort barn? Well here is why. Found them this afternoon. Hours old, I moved them to the other corner and place them in a storage bin with some towels. They were inches from 10lb Funyun stepping on them. The storage bin should keep them protected. Momma kitty...
