    Redfoot Babies Won't Eat

OH my goodness there's so many replies! Ok, I'm going to try to respond to everyone. naturalman91, the humidity is pretty low, I've been battling with that fir a while :/ I get it up to 99% but I just can't keep it where it's supposed to be regardless of how often I mist. I'm going to get a...

    Redfoot Babies Won't Eat

Kathyth, it's midnight right now so I will tomorrow. Yvonne, they have two basking areas that get up into the mid 90s during the day and and enclosure is a closed chamber one. In the coldest spots the overall temperature is still around 80. They're definitely staying warm enough. The humidity...

    Redfoot Babies Won't Eat

So, I have a trio of Redfooted Tortoises that are each about 10 months old now, and they've never eaten good while I've had them. I can't get them to eat hardly anything no matter what type of food I offer them, and so subsequently they're not growing, and it seems like now they're starting to...

    Survivorman!

I'd just like to add in that I'd love to believe those tortoises are wild, if just for the fact that taking 30 something captive tortoises/pets, and putting them all on an island, unsupervised, just sounds like really bad and stupid idea to me. If anything, those tortoises were part of a wild...

    Mixing Species

I have to say, in response to the second half of your post (and your comment about weakened immune systems in hybrids, which I don't agree with), if an experienced turtle or tortoise keeper is careful, I think it's perfectly fine to mix subspecies. ----- (excuse me while I get off-topic for a...

    Indoor Redfoot Housing Sizes

The snowstorm here is very bad at the moment, it's funny because alongside parking lots the mounds of snow are a good 3 meters high where they've piled it all. It's terrible to try to get around in. I sure wish we could get some nicer weather over here!

    Indoor Redfoot Housing Sizes

Wow, I wish it were that easy for me! I'm in Ohio and we had about -40 C weather (around the same temperature in F) with the wind chill some nights this winter, at times I had to run 3 heat lamps to keep the temperature up! I bet that Puerto Rican climate makes tortoise care a breeze.

    Indoor Redfoot Housing Sizes

I hope my tortoises look like that when they get bigger! Well, I've already had to nickname one of my guys "lumpy" because his shell is pretty angular, but he was like that when I got him. hopefully his shell will smooth out when he's bigger. May I ask how you keep the humidity up? I'd never...

    Indoor Redfoot Housing Sizes

Thanks for the advice! 6' x 2' for three tortoises is the same size-per-tortoise ratio as 4' x 2' for two, so I think I (hopefully) they'll be comfortable in here for a few years! :D [hr] Andy, your habitat looks very nice! It should keep your tortoise happy for a very long time :) Your...

    Indoor Redfoot Housing Sizes

Hello everyone! I hope this is in the right section! :D I have a trio of 8 month old Redfoot Tortoises whom I'm in the middle of building a 6' by 2' closed chamber habitat for (by modifying a couple of Zoo Med Tortoise Houses). What I'm wondering is, until what approximate size will this...

    Mixing Species

I have to say, my take on mixing any sort of species is that it should only be done if the animals come from the same sort of area/ecosystem and could be found in the wild together. Otherwise, the risk of introducing strange pathogens is too great... remember what happened when Europeans came...

    Juvenile Redfoot Tortoise Table Build

Yes, I saw that thread, and I got really excited because they did basically the same exact thing I'm trying to do, so I sort of know it's going to work now! :D (this is the thread I'm talking about: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread-71354.html) On the other hand, I feel so unoriginal now...

    Juvenile Redfoot Tortoise Table Build

(Having some difficulties with the original design for the legs. I have to go back to the drawing board and fix that up. I'll finally get some pictures on here once that's fixed up, unless you all just want to see two plain, empty Zoo Med Tortoise Houses XD)

    Juvenile Redfoot Tortoise Table Build

Thanks :D To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to add pictures to a thread or post or whatever on here XD but I'm going to take some tonight, and they'll be up when I figure that out.

    Juvenile Redfoot Tortoise Table Build

Hello, all! As promised when I first joined, I'll be sharing all of my projects with you :) My three Redfooted Tortoises (each are about 8 months old now) are doing good, and have outgrown their starter home, a 55 gallon aquarium. For a while now I've been planning their next home, one...

    My setup for now

...Nothing about that setup is ok. You should be in NO way housing those two species together, and if you can't afford to separate the and give them each a proper habitat ASAP, you need to re-home them to someone who can. Honestly... -_-

    Survivorman!

That episode is on right now! I just saw it, ironically enough as I was prepping some growth I just cut off my prickly pear cacti (which that island was covered in) for my own redfooted tortoises. I turned it off when he said he might be making them into "turtle soup," I didn't want to stick...
