    drippy nose question

Yes, temps are warmer for sure. Any thoughts on the idea that it could just be transition stress and/or related to the parasite issue? I was reading that sometimes parasites can cause "cold-like symptoms"?

    drippy nose question

Searching isn't turning up much because it always leads me to gunky colors, trouble breathing, and lethargy/behaviour changes so it doesn't match up with what I'm experiencing... We've had Mr. T for exactly 4 weeks today. Admittedly his substrate was way too dry the first 48hrs. About 3-4...

    a new and updated introduction

Hello! I was first here back in November when we adopted a Russian from Petco based on my brother-in-law-who-works-there telling me he was fine and healthy. It turned out that he was a she and unhealthy as all get out. She was with us for 5 days before returning her based on our vet's...

update to the failed attempt - trying again!

Here's the original thread: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread-83317.html Reader's Digest version is that my brother-in-law works at Petco and talked me into what he believed was a health male tortoise that he's had there since March...took it to the vet to discover that it was a very...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

I thought about editing/adding to this post *after* I posted the new thread but was in the middle of cooking dinner and you beat me to fixing it :giggle: I'm no stranger to message boards but I'm still finding my way around this one, lol. And yeah, sucky as it is I know we're making the right...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

Petco will pay the vet bills...but it has to be *their* vet which is another office/doctor and I don't know how good they are. But yeah, I'm just not in a position to take on something like this my first week as a reptile owner. If that makes me a bad person, I'll own it. And yes, this is for...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

good bye tortoise :-( Epic fail at the vet today :sigh: He's not a healthy he, she's an unhealthy she for starters :P So it stinks but she has to go back - I'm in no position as a newbie to handle things like injections and force feedings etc....especially with "no guarantee." BUT, the plus...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

RE: 48hrs in and he's making me nervous No problem - I appreciate the input so I'm happy to provide and re-provide any information I can to facilitate that :-D His basking area is 95-96*...the hide on the warm end is in the low 80s (sometimes as much as 84*)...same for the middle of the...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

RE: 48hrs in and he's making me nervous We've been soaking him every day to make sure he's hydrated (and he does drink when he's in there) but he hasn't had a bite to eat since we brought him home. We've tried feeding at various times and thought for sure being super awake/alert after a soak...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

RE: 48hrs in and he's making me nervous His vet check is this afternoon which should be interesting...I want him to have a fecal check but he hasn't gone since we brought him home (tomorrow will be 1 week) :-/ He surprisingly likes (or at least seems to) when you pet his head - if you start...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

RE: 48hrs in and he's making me nervous I've had the warm end at 93ish degrees but just bumped it to 96* to see if that helps...he's not in the hide or even buried in the coconut, he's just chillin'. I'll see if I can get a pic... [hr] Most of the time his back legs are sprawled out too but...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

RE: 48hrs in and he's making me nervous Ok, cool. I was wondering if I should do daily soaks for a bit or stay with the 3ish times per week. We'll gently wake him later and repeat what we did yesterday and offer more fresh food again when he's still up. Might also put down a water proof...

48hrs in and he's making me nervous (Update after vet)

He sleeps. A lot. And that's it. He was super active and eating for the hour before we brought him home and once I put him in the enclosure he walked around for maybe 2 minutes and then got comfy in the terracotta pot in the warm end. He has since decided that his favorite spot is burying...

wanna check out this RT for me?

Everything looked ok as far as my untrained eyes could tell today - looking at one in person is soooo very different than all the photos on the internet!! He was very active and happily crunching on endive w/spring mix. He yawned at one point and I nearly died from the cuteness - had to snap...

    brought home an RT today!!!

No experience, completely new! Which is why this is an anxious time for me, lol. I went the rubbermaid route (bought a new one this morning vs the one I thought I was going to use) at least for now as we all go through the learning curve and figure out what we all like/don't like. He's 4"...

    minimum enclosure height for RT?

The height is 13.5" so we should be good for right now. What do you mean by "caps on the corners? I like the idea of inward facing lips...or one guy suggested putting a popsicle-stick style picket fence (like doll house stuff from Michael's) around the top edge of the enclosure?
