I read about the Utah thing too, apparently people taking in desert torts are unintentionaly causing the population to boom because of breeding. Its causing problems for wild torts because some that are captive are "escaping" (or probably rather, irresponiable people are letting them loose...

I like to have regular checkups with my torts just to make sure that all is well in the world. I get them checked for worms or any other common parasites and infections every six months. i feel its better safe then sorry.

Russians are escqpe artists -- seriously they're little Hodinis. I've never had one climb out of its indoor habitat but I have had some successful escapes from my out door and tortoise coral, but that was more of a digging thing, I don't think they'd be able to get out unless I built them stairs...

I have to say Montana's weather is quite bipolar, but once June hits my Russian lives the Sunshine we get, but there is a lot of pulling them in and out of doors, so I can see where you're coming from...
I live in Montana. This is not a very populated state, despite being the third largest in the continental US. Montana in a sense is a big rural community, where just about everyone knows at least one person in very town. It's nice, really a great place to live.
