    In Memoriam

We had to say goodbye to my golden retriever Heath yesterday. He was eleven years old. He seemed fine then last Tuesday he started downhill fast. He went from normal to barely being able to breathe over a six hour period. At the ER, they removed the fluid around his heart. An echocardiogram the...

    Do torts travel well?

My tort only travels to the vet. She would poop pretty much every time in her first travel bag when we travelled. She doesn’t poop near as much since I made her the new much larger bag.

    Do torts travel well?

My redfoot Rowan has been having a devil of a time getting a proper passport photo.

    Hello! I got a tort :)

It’s kind of weird having an animal shipped through the mail, isn’t it?

    Hello! I got a tort :)

My tort in the Tortoise Supply packaging in July 2014.

Is my baby Sulcata's shell okay?

The lines around each scute (think of a scute as one of the “tiles” comprising your tort’s shell) are growth lines. Kind of like the growth lines on a tree trunk cross section. My tortoise’s new growth showed up as whitish then would turn dark.

    Hello! I got a tort :)

Hello, Thomas! I got my Rowan from Tortoise Supply.

    Do torts travel well?

I have a bag I made especially for my tort to travel in. It has a foam cushion at the bottom, and the insides are lined with the silver fabric used for oven mitts. There are little net pockets where I can put hand warmers (for heat) and moistened lint-free cloths for humidity. There is a little...

That doesn’t surprise me at all.

    Help my tortoise please

When you soak your baby in warm tap water, add some carrot baby food to that water so that your tort can get some nutrients as well. As for a vet, you can find one in the vet list on this forum. https://www.tortoiseforum.org/forums/tortoise-vet-list.126/ Good luck with that adorable tortoise...

    Help my tortoise please

Baby tortoises definitely need those daily soaks. I still soak my six-year-old cherryhead daily. I don’t know that I need to, but I figure it can’t hurt either.

    ZooMed reptifogger

I use distilled water. I have a small distillation unit that I bought on Amazon for that very purpose. I’ve had it for almost three years now.

    Sad day

I got my cherryhead from Tortoise Supply. I have her set up in a little greenhouse inside my house.

    ZooMed reptifogger

I ended up going through two House of Hydro setups. I may have done something wrong because they only lasted about one year each time. I bought an Evergreen pet supplies fogger, which is cheaper, quieter, and is still running after almost three years. It doesn’t have near the output though.

    2020 tortoise forum calendar?

That’ll be disappointing if there’s not a calendar, but my tort and I will survive. The information I’ve gotten from TFO has actually helped Rowan survive.

    Lets see some Redfoots!

This is my Rowan. I’ve had her since July 2014. When I got her, she was 1.75 ounces. Yesterday, at her six month annual checkup, she weighed 5.19 pounds.

Male, female, or too soon to tell?

I’m leaning towards too young because they look pretty small.
