The lines around each scute (think of a scute as one of the “tiles” comprising your tort’s shell) are growth lines. Kind of like the growth lines on a tree trunk cross section. My tortoise’s new growth showed up as whitish then would turn dark.

Baby tortoises definitely need those daily soaks. I still soak my six-year-old cherryhead daily. I don’t know that I need to, but I figure it can’t hurt either.

I use distilled water. I have a small distillation unit that I bought on Amazon for that very purpose. I’ve had it for almost three years now.

I got my cherryhead from Tortoise Supply. I have her set up in a little greenhouse inside my house.

I ended up going through two House of Hydro setups. I may have done something wrong because they only lasted about one year each time. I bought an Evergreen pet supplies fogger, which is cheaper, quieter, and is still running after almost three years. It doesn’t have near the output though.

That’ll be disappointing if there’s not a calendar, but my tort and I will survive. The information I’ve gotten from TFO has actually helped Rowan survive.

This is my Rowan. I’ve had her since July 2014. When I got her, she was 1.75 ounces. Yesterday, at her six month annual checkup, she weighed 5.19 pounds.

I’m leaning towards too young because they look pretty small.
