Mine stay outside all the time unless it gets down to the low 50's and is damp out. Our days, even in winter, are generally over 70 though. Everyone does fine.
I think it depends on the tortoise. I have some that will come running over to you and enjoy having their shells and/or heads rubbed. Others pretty much want nothing to do with people unless they are delivering the weekly fruit rations.
Not sure if this counts but mine will wait at the sliding glass door and come inside if it's left open. They pretty much just roam around the house before being escorted back outside. They do poop on occasion but we have tile flooring so it's a quick clean-up.
That's actually the yellow foot eating the peel. She's the only on that will eat the peel on commercial bananas. I do have some that I grow myself and everyone eats those peels and all.
