    Heidi crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Thanks, Yvonne. You were instrumental in guiding me back then and I will always remember that. Because of the rough time we shared, Heidi has a special place in my heart. Just earlier today, my husband kept saying, if I… if … and can’t help but feel partly responsible. I know time will heal...

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

Yes! I didn’t trust my neighbor with dog proofing, so we did it on our side. Also requested them to move their dogs to the other side of the yard (they have a divider). Good news is they moved to another State last month and I have no more huskies to worry about. :)

Thank you, Karen. I appreciate your words and understanding. This forum has always been so supportive and the one place I felt safe to be vulnerable about this loss.

    Heidi crossed the Rainbow Bridge

I am so devastated and didn’t know where else to turn, so here I am. A few of you may remember my thread from 12 years ago about Heidi, Frosty and Frank. Great folks here helped me save the 3 hatchlings whom were near death. Heidi was the weakest hatchling but she eventually pulled through...

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

Five years later, Frankie continues to do well. His growth was stunted for a while but he finally started to show visible growth and strength.

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

He came home Monday and is resting. The doctor was able to find enough skin suture it to the shell and cover the organs. He only covered the edges of the shell with epoxy and left the skin exposed to air. Doc also said upper half of the plastron were peeled down to membrane...the shiny...

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

Just came back from the vet. We are moving ahead with treatment. Treatment will involve flushing and cleaning the wound + patching him up with some epoxy material. Will be on a lot of pain meds and antibiotics for a while. Attached is a photo of another survivor treated by him last week.

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

This is a repeat post I placed on the tortoise health page. My 7 year old CDT, Frank, is severely injured from my neighbor's dog attacking him sometime yesterday. The dog dug through the fence and got a hold of Frank. Frank's organs are showing through about 3x1 inches of opening where the...

Treatment Options - CDT attacked by Neighbor's dog

My 7 year old CDT, Frank, was attacked by a neighbor's dog today. The dog dug through the fence and got a hold of Frank. About 3 inches of his shell, carapace and plastron, were ripped off from the lower left side above the leg, exposing his organs. There are no skin or muscles I can see...

Greetings from Heidi, Frosty and Frank.

Thanks the the information and the article, Ariza. Heidi started doing the head bobbing thing this year. I am wondering if this is why Frank has been a little withdrawn recently. I'll have to keep a closer watch and be prepared to separate them sooner than later.

Greetings from Heidi, Frosty and Frank.

Ah, ok. Thank you. Is this behavior only exhibited by some males but not all? Should I expect Heidi's behavior to get worse as he becomes an adult? Just wondering if I need to consider separate enclosures in the future.

Greetings from Heidi, Frosty and Frank.

Lol. I agree Heidi has Napoleon complex. So far, the other two just ignore her when she acts up. I am just glad she doesn't act up often. I've only seen it a handful of times in the last 5 years. Perhaps Heidi is acting up bc she/he is having identity crisis! I should have given them...

Greetings from Heidi, Frosty and Frank.

Thank you all for the kind words! To answer Ariza and Tom's questions. These three torts are siblings. They are too young to be sexed, I think. So, Frank can actually grow up to be a princess and Heidi can grow up to be a stud. The three torts get along very well for the most part...
