    Buying Mazuri

I just clicked on your link and it's now $10.99 for only 1lb. I went ahead and bought anyway because I forgot to order and the tort is already out of brumation. When was the last time you ordered?

Very New Mom to an Older Outdoor Tortoise

I'm glad I don't have dogs, one thing I don't have to worry about my tort. I have indoor cats and strays that visit my yard and ALL of them are very curious about Ariza but are also afraid of her and move away if she heads toward them. It's funny! Your tort will probably want to sleep under...

    Let's Talk About Poop....Again!

I was also worried a couple years ago that Ariza was not pooping, even though she acted and looked healthy. I inquired of this forum and they told me the same (disgusting) facts. So, I took a narrow rake and used it inside her burrow to the very end (when I knew she was out) and pulled out an...

Update on sick tort, Little M

For the nails, add some flat rough rocks inside her crate, that's how they trim their nails in the wild. I'm late to posting, can you update? You've done a miracle for the little one, she looked already great in early June. Would love to see new photos.

Looks like an early spring in 2016 ...

Ariza usually wakes up early March to early April. This year she was out mid February. She's walked around a couple of times but mostly has parked herself under the Wolfberry bush. I put her in her burrow 3 times but she turns right around and goes back to the Wolfberry. I'm hoping she knows...

Any BIG plant or tree i can have in my backyard as food sources?

Planting of mulberry trees is illegal in Pima County, where I live, because they're allergenic (I am allergic, too). If someone is willing to sell me some leaves I'd be happy to buy in the Spring for my tort. I can freeze them like one of the posters here is experimenting. Anyone?

    Old Mazuri?

Thanks TurtleBug. I obviously should not buy the 25 lb bag, there's no way Ariza can eat that much in one year.

    Old Mazuri?

Thank you guys, am keeping till Spring when she can eat again. Hate wasting money and especially hate wasting food. Just one more question: How long CAN I keep Mazuri if I were to keep most of it in ref? I'd like to buy the big 25lb bag from the company (cheaper) but I've only got one tort...

    Old Mazuri?

Thanks all for the replies. The reason I asked is that I've read that Mazuri is only fresh for 3 months. I only bought 1 lb to see if she liked it and she loved it. I've kept it in the refrigerator the whole time since I bought it.

    Old Mazuri?

My DT Ariza is already brumating. I have some leftover Mazuri that I bought mid-summer. I wonder if I should just throw it away. I put it in the freezer but it's probably too old already. She loves it and I'll buy more in the Spring after she comes out. Any advice?

    Celery leaves

Sensible post, all very true. Also, re the koalas, I've read that they eat from different trees, that too many leaves from the same eucalyptus (spell?) can be toxic to them. I think variety is the best option, for animals and humans.

Is it ok for tortise to eat cress ?

LOL Just like people. I love brussell sprouts and most people hate them. I also used to love liver back in my meat-eating days. And Ariza is supposed to like grass but she'll walk right by a grass patch and not eat. We're all unique individuals.

    Mazuri Tortoise Food?

Thanks Tortoise Man! I just went to Ebay and bought from stickyjoe1 for $8.95 and free shipping. I only have one tort and she's never had it and I don't know if she will like it, didn't want to spend all that money buying the 25lbs bag. And they supposedly go bad after a few months and I...

    Sulcata Weekly Eating Schedule?

While researching Tom's suggestion for me to get a Lavatera I found this great article about mallows, including hibiscus. Thought I would share: http://www.pacifichorticulture.org/articles/marvelous-mallows/

    Sulcata Weekly Eating Schedule?

I think you're right, I think the invasive problem is in humid and rainy states. I just did another google and it seems it's invasive mostly in PA, Georgia, Tenn, VA. There's even a forum for people in TN and even the posters there have had different experiences, many said the seedlings are...

    Sulcata Weekly Eating Schedule?

I have read on this forum lots of great stuff about Rose of Sharon and was thinking about getting one, but then read it's invasive. You've never had a problem? I suppose it depends on the climate, here we only get 11 inches rain a year so I don't know if that is a plus or minus for invasion.

    Non-tort turds / Odin's gardening assistant

http://www.testudines.org/en/others/appendixes/appendix/9836 I have no idea what they can possibly eat. The insides don't look very appetizing (even to a meat eater). See internal organs photo in article. I've read that since torts don't have to eat for a long time, sailors used to store...

    Droopy prickly pear?

Like G-stars said, they have spineless opuntia. I bought mine on Ebay and it doesn't even have the stickers. The pads come and you let them dry for a week or so and then stick in the ground. In about a month they have roots and start to make new baby pads.

    Non-tort turds / Odin's gardening assistant

Just curious, are you an ex-pat living in Morocco? How did you end up there? Apologies to OdinsGma for getting off subject. Since they eat everything there, aren't you afraid they'll steal and eat your tort? I'm Italian but lived elsewhere for most of my life and my mom used to say that...
