After finishing our outdoor RT enclsoure (8ftx20ft) with a prey proof hardwire top I am looking into heating the outdoor enclosure. I would like to keep them out there until Sept. early Oct. I have looked into pig blankets, bulbs, and straw. I was thinking about a dog house with a pig blanket...
I prefer cages that your tort can look out and see you. My torts' cage is right by my desk and when I sit there my 2 torts can see me and I can see them. We can interact. They can see me walk into the room and they come up to their cage to say hello. I also think the cage could be bigger...
RE: Outdoor Enclosure
Yes, it's nice for Charlotte and Doop! It will be nice for us when we can finally clean up the garage and have a free weekend this summer. Thanks!
RE: Outdoor Enclosure
Thanks Yvonne! My 2 Rts, Charlotte and Doop are going to be living here in the daytime.....Any idea on tops for a big enclosure (not hinged hardware cloth in wooden frames). Looking for some other suggestions. Thanks![hr]
My 2 Rts will be living here. We are...
Still working on outdoor 2 RT's enclosure.....I'd appreciate any comments you might have for me. This enclosure is 8x20 ft; edible flowers and Carolina Pet Supply tortoise seeds have been planted.
Additionally, I'm also looking for suggestions pertaining to a top for the big enclosure. I...
Thanks Ryan! I hope your health is okay. I loved how you described them as siblings who are forced to share a room! Very clever![hr]
That's interesting and good to know that females and males start carrying their tails differently at only 2-3 inches. I thought it would be around 4-5...
Thanks for your sharing and your opinion! Does your young male carry his tail to the side? Does your young female carry her tail straight out? When do the torts' lengths start showing sex differences with how they carry their tails? Is it around 4 in. long or more when the torts are 5 or 6...
Thanks Ryan! Do your torts live different lives in the enclosure or do they do things together? If I had 2 females I would want them basically to both be awake most of the time, to be by each other or maybe follow each other sometimes. I'm trying to figure out if most torts interact or live...
Thanks for pointing out that even captive breds can have parasites from their mother. I didn't know if mail order services sent any health quarantee or not. An initial visit to the vet seems very important now. Thanks!
Hi-I know it is not good to mix species but I was wondering if a female Greek or Herman tort could be a friend to my female Rt in the same enclosure. I would like to put one of them together in the same enclosure with my female Rt because a Greek or Herman habitats are so similiar. Any...
Thanks Yvonne! Yeah, I didn't want to mix a male with my female.
I mentioned Greek or Herman because I thought their care was very similiar to a RT. Thanks so much for your thoughts![hr]
Thanks Stephanie! I'd like to read some of the posts about companion torts. I am going to try and...
What is everyone's opinion on having more than one tort? I only have one and am thinking about getting a friend for her. She is a RT female and has a 4x2 ft indoor and big 8x20 ft outdoor enclosure. I know they are solitary creatures except for mating but I wanted everyone's opinion who have...
I am a new RT owner also. I have learned so much. Like you I started out with a $100 acquarium from the pet store. It didn't last too long because my tort kept trying to get out thru the glass. So, I put a forest fish liner behind it like you did but it didn't do any good! My tort still...
