Thanks. I have a well insulated tortoise house and keep her out for summer and early fall but nothing i can securely close her up in. It has a door opening and i thought about adding a swing doggie door style door to it for later fall but i am not sure that wouldn’t crate a draft. No shed as of...
Hi Wellington. I agree AZ. is much different from my GA. location. However, i have not had success in housing my large adult Sulcata outdoors during the winter months. Hopefully, i am the only one. Mine has had 2 illnesses with an upper respiratory infection after attempts to house her outside...
Agreed it’s a Sulcata. They are certainly strong enough to get out of fences. Post him on face book if u have an account or Pet finders online. Let your local animal control know. You could take them a flyer with a pic as well as one to all the local vets. He/She is probably at least 8-10 years...
Sorry, the above response was more for the first page I read but i missed the second. I have also seen the leg locked position for mating. Leave alone and all will be fine. I agree with nandusnandus.
Hi! I do not have nearly the experience as Mark1 above with box turtles! However, I do remember a time many years ago when i put a wild box turtle with my then female pet box turtle together in a large outdoor pen, both were eastern boxies. Within minutes the male climbed my female and to my...
Love the name! Hooray! Skittles is on the way to becoming Huge! So Happy he/she is doing well! Can’t wait to see updated photos soon of your healthy gorgeous tort!!! Congrats! Thanks for keeping us posted. Kelly
Hate to say it, but probably not likely. I have seen horrific things happen where pet stores are concerned. The animals are often just considered inventory and a “write off” taken.
Looks terrible. Looks like it could possibly be an external parasite maybe a bot fly under the skin?https://m.petmd.com/reptile/conditions/skin/c_rp_external_parasites
Just a thought...sometimes pet stores will release an injured animal that they feel will die or even sell it for less money to...
I would not try a topical medication without direction from a vet. It doesn't look like an open wound and there would be a risk of medication ingestion with it being so close to the mouth. See above post. Please continue to keep is posted with photos. We care about how this works out for you!
I agree with Yvonne G. It looks from your photos (anyway), that what ever injury it was/is, it could be healing. But we can only tell so much from photos. Continue to monitor eating. If not eating enough find a vet! If it changes size...continues to swell, emits puss or blood, or it doesn’t emit...
Also for frame of reference, in the first tracing she easily fit in the palm of my hand. The tracing looks slightly larger than she was as i was going around the outside of shell with a pen. Pay attention the weight. I didn’t know to use a gram scale then but my vet confirmed the weight. The...
These were my tracings of the growth on mine. The first is the day i brought her home at approx. 3 ish 4 months??? The second is around the beginning of supposed month seven. I did have her checked by 2 vets during this period and her poop checked for worms. Sulcatas do however sometimes grow at...
