Absolutely beautiful tort!!! I think the most amazing thing is that they’re so beautiful, and yet they have no idea they’re so beautiful. Which maybe makes them even more beautiful.
Thanks for the replies folks! Loving Paris, but yes I'm certainly missing my little Anna!! Hoping she's eating her food, sleeping well, adjusting to her "hotel" at the animal house. I'm also hoping Anna is enjoying the other animals they have staying there. I'm just glad they gave her her...
Hey everyone! So my fiancée and I are off to Paris for two weeks, and I just got back from the reptile vet where we dropped off Anna for her own two-week vacation.
As excited as we both are about this wonderful trip, I'd be lying if I didn't admit I miss my little Anna. It was the...
Adorable tortoise! Looks a lot like my little Anna. I wouldn't worry about the pyramiding; that's basically an inevitable side effect of captive rearing. Plus there's no evidence that mild to moderate shell pyramiding has even the slightest effect on a tortoise's health, quality of life, or...
I know, I know, the plural is RedFOOTS, but maybe I caught your attention with the rhyme scheme?
Maybe not Lolol. Okay get to the point right? So I'm curious about how much and how often your tortoises like to eat? Anna is five (or six, depending who you ask). Her appetite changes all the...
Those torts are adorable!!
For books, get Mike Pingleton's book at amazon.com.
And keep checking in with the forum as you accumulate questions.
Those are some great looking baby redfoots!
I saw this update on Saturday morning and have been grieving the loss of Bubbles ever since. You did a heroic job, AlaskaMike; if even 10% keepers demonstrated your love, patience, compassion empathy, fortitude, discipline, the list goes on, in taking care of their wonderful tortoises, the...
I do love my Anna. And I don't know *why* I love her so much; I just do. I think what I love most is that she makes absolutely no apologies for what she does or who she is. She refuses to be rushed; she goes to the bathroom when and where she pleases; and when she's outside she's completely...
Thanks again to everyone who pitched in, gave advice, offered words of wisdom, etc, for Anna Karenina, my five-year-old pride and joy. Last time we checked in, Anna was exhibiting sneezing/coughing sounds that my vet said might be a sign of something bad--even life threatening. The vet came...
That's insane! Wow. Long live Bean!
I don't have a filter for the fogger. I suppose that is a possible culprit. I do notice that Anna is breathing rather loudly.
Yeah, it's similar to the world of the gym or the world of drug addiction and many other disparate and otherwise-incomparable activities; there's very little like medical/textbook knowledge on torts, so all have come together as community and share what works. The people on here probably know...
Okay, okay! But let it be said that I'm only following your advice because you seem smart, you obviously have tort experiences, and because you're from England. My understanding is that the English LOVE tortoises. That it's like a tradition in the English countryside to keep torts. That is...
Anna takes after her father; she is a night owl. As for darkness, I've heard on good authority that for a few days it might be worth keeping her light ON in the service of BAKING this thing out of her system.
p.s. Don't worry about Anna's sleep schedule. She wakes up late. Like 1 PM.
Okay, I just looked at the thermostat, and we are in the 90s. I'm not sure it's ever really below 80. Anna's been munching and relaxing most of the day and evening.
And here she is, now, looking for food at 3 AM!
One thing I wonder is if it's possible she got something stuck in her nose...
