    Dragging hind legs when walking

My Greek is 4.5 years old now. It's been pretty healthy from what I can tell, except that its hind legs don't seem as strong as the front ones. When it's walking, the bottom shell isn't parallel to the ground, always drops at the back, but not touching the ground of course. Is this just a...

    Tortoise is acting funny..

When you say you feed him "beans", what kind of beans? In general, beans should not be Greek's food. Depending on what kind of beans and if it is raw or steamed, some can be toxic.

    Top food choices?

Don't forget squash and napkin. The vines, young leaves, flowers and of course the fruits are all great food to tortoises. Best of all, they grow crazy like weeds and won't invite insects.

    Strange Circles...

My 1 year old Greek also has those growth marks exactly the same as on your pictures. It's related with fast growth, showed up a few weeks after I noticed the new grown bone matter between scutes.

    Feeling guilty...

The main problem I see with the sub-$50 bookshelf is: the back panel, which will become the floor of the enclosure, is not made of the same material as the frame and shelves, rather it is made of a paper board with wood-like paint. The significance is: the floor will not be water-proof, you...

    new shell growth or problem?

The white grooves are normal "growth marks", it will turn darker later, the new growth is always lighter. The new growth is also the place where "shell rot" will start if not having enough Ca, sunshine or the tort sits in wet substrates for prolonged time. You probably will also find these...

    Small Tortoises?

This time of the year is a good time to start having a tort. Greek, Herman's and Russian are pretty forgiving. I have a Greek, it's my first tort ever, and it's doing great. The key points are: keep it warm, lots of sunshine, enclosure not too dry, soak often, varied food. Since you've never...

strange button sized disc in feces [pics]

I think it's a part of his body came off. The color and the shape seems like his boy's part was somehow squeezed into a thin piece and just came off.

    Does AnyOne Know?

Learned from my own experience, the compact fluorescent bulb is harmful to their eyes, especially when he is so young. If you find him having trouble opening eyes, changing to a MVB will be the solution.

    Sad Tort

here is a link to the original post on that forum. Don't know if you can see the pictures without an account. He posted 4 pictures from different angles, would someone please tell if that tort can really stay on that column for long? I have zero experience with larger torts...

    Sad Tort

I came across this picture on a tortoise discussion forum. The owner lives in a flat but he decided to have a large tort anyway. Very soon he can not afford enough indoor space for it to roam around ("it knocks down everything in the room") and outdoor is not an option. So he puts the poor...
