Thanks for the detailed info. I’m in Texas so my tortoises can enjoy sunshine during some warm days in winter(of course in other seasons they can enjoy the great outdoors). As long as HID has no safety problems it seems I can stick to it as basking light.

The shipping of fire ant bait took longer than I expected, haven't got a chance to apply it. However it seems the ants in my yard is more "tortoise tolerant" than those living in my friends yard. No new wounds yet.
