    Shelter rescue (poor guy)

    The poor thing.... good thing you rescued it! My vet suggested feeding mine earthworms, feederfish (goldfish), berries (mine loves strawberries and blueberries).

    Russian VS Sulcats

    I would say sulcata. I just got a sulcata hatchling two months ago and love it. My fiance and I discussed getting a tortoise and a large one before I got the sulcata. We both like the idea of having a large tortoise, which a lot of our family and friends don't understand.

    Tk dosen't have shell rot does he?!

    My RES had those too. If you can post a pic I would like you know for sure if it is what mine had. I took mine to the vet and they said to use iodine and a brush. You mix the iodine with water, so that it looks like tea (color) and then brush it onto the RES's shell. It then starts peeling off.

    what tortoise is right for me?

    I started with a Three Toed box turtle. They are small in size and are pretty low maintenance. They also have a great personality.:D

    Permit

    I have not heard of having a permit to keep a turtle or a tort. Are there specific species that need permits? or does it just depend on the state? Just curious:cool:

    Zuri my Sulcata hatchling

    The substrate is 50% topsoil and 50% playsand, he had moved the box..... I try to leave grass so he can eat it through out the day.

    Sig and Twig

    :D Here are pictures of Sig and Twig my RES. Sig is a 2 year old male and is the smaller one in the pictures. Twig is a 2 year old female and is the larger one. She loves fish, where as Sig will not eat them!
