That’s a really good suggestion. I use a uvb/basking combo for when he can’t get outside during the day, but his tank is also in front of a window so he doesn’t actually need it for light. His CHE keeps things nice and toasty (he arrived in March with a respiratory infection and then a power...
Thanks! Tom mentioned in another one of my posts that I’m leaving him outside for too long each day, so I feel stupid for not thinking that the high humidity I’ve been maintaining in his tank only works if he’s actually in it, and not in the yard. ??♀️
Yeah. His humidity is high, he has a hide, I’m following Tom’s care instructions but I’ve had trouble getting enough soaks in lately. I’ve had some mobility issues that culminated in foot surgery so I’ve not been as good about getting him soaked as I should be. Clearly it’s starting to take a...
Awesome. Thanks!! I’ll make sure to do that. His inside tank is all set up with the right temps and humidity, I just thought that he would prefer to be outdoors if possible. I’ll be more careful about his outside time. Thank you!
I have a 9ish month old leopard who spends most of his time in a pen outside in the grass (I live in the south and it’s nice and warm all day). I’ll usually add a handful of extra food to his water dish (lettuce, dandelions, squash/cucumber blossoms, ROS, opuntia, etc) but he doesn’t often each...
He’s about the size of my palm. He definitely can’t climb out. I was just worried about him getting snatched up and eaten! But you’re right, there aren’t any hawks in my backyard so he’s probably fine. Thanks!
I made this outdoor box for my baby leopard but just realized that this screen may be an issue. It’s the kind of mesh screen that goes in a front screen door. Will this let enough of the good sunshine though did him to benefit from?
Thanks!
Is the hanging light not enough? It’s a UVB/basking light bulb and I thought it would take care of the uvb needs. I have it on a timer to be on for 12 hours each day.
I can swap them out for smaller ones but unfortunately I only have smooth river rocks available right now. My son has a big rock pit in the back yard filled with these stones so I went out and grabbed a bucketful of the largest onesies, because I was worried the smaller ones might be an issue...
I just finished up my enclosure (mostly, still waiting for one or two things to arrive) and would love some feedback! I have a leopard baby arriving this week and want to make sure I’m ready.
note: I know clamp on lights are a no-no, I’m waiting for a second stand to arrive
I literally have every single thing all set up! I even spent a week with my lights/heating cycling through to make sure my humidity went temps were right. I just don’t have the tortoise!
I decided to go with the Leopard! I’ve assembled my enclosure and now just need to order a new little friend. Unfortunately both my husband and I just lost our jobs due to Covid-19, so a big purchase like a new tortoise will have to wait a bit. Luckily we have a big yard and garden so feeding it...
I live in Kentucky and have a large backyard as well as a shed that can be turned into a tortoise house when it’s ready. The main reason I’m thinking maybe leopard this time is because now I live in a well populated neighborhood and have a wood privacy fence (which would definitely need to be...
Like the title says, I’m trying to decide between a leopard and a sulcata. I had a sulcata about 4 years ago and through a series of unfortunate events she passed away. I’m finally ready to try again but have been thinking about a leopard this time. I know their temperaments and size are two big...
