Anyone knows of a breeder of this species? I've had three eggs for now and they all seem infertile. Either I am not having a proper incubation method or I am not pairing them often or too often as the female tends to be extremely aggressive and copulation (mostly fighting and running) lasts...
FYI
Zombensis and belliana are often miss-identified, thought I would share a body-body comparison.
K. belliana origin: Uganda
K. zombensis origin: Tanzania
They are kept in separate enclosures, I am not sure as to when I can expect eggs however I will keep this thread updated. The male is extremely aggressive when breeding, I will try and film it next time to link it to this thread.
I was lucky to find a female that has been in the country for 15 years, she has already laid eggs with the previous owner but they never hatched. After a quarantine the female was introduced to one of the males and mating was very long and aggressive. The female was continuously running and the...
Thought I would post a few photos of my female, my group is doing very well and continuously breeding. I am having trouble finding eggs due to the size of the enclosure, hopefully they will hatch naturally in the ground. I have seen a few of the females doing test holes but they lay at around...
No problem I asked a lot of people on fb about them as there is so little info on them out there. They do like it humid and are exclusively terrestrial feeding on grubs and fallen fruit. They are adapted to climbing from what I have seen as I have been forced to remodel their enclosure walls...
Here are my 2.0 Melanochelys tricarinata (Tricarinate hill turtle), these are long term captives that prove very hard to find, still on the lookout for a female. These turtles remind me of geomyda spengleri as they have the same behaviour when it comes to watching over their enclosure and...
I wouldn't be too worried about that white spot for now from what I can see here it could possibly be a part of scale that has been removed from rubbing or anything along those lines. The enclosure looks very artificial you may want to add some substrate and some proper hides for long term health.
If you are saying that it is a Bell's hingeback tortoise it may not be wild caught. You may want to try and stimulate rainfall with long misting and high humidity as this always triggers a positive response in hingebacks. Feed all the foods Will mentioned, it could be possible that the hingeback...
He is a really nice guy but he needs to improve in his husbandry; if you see how he keeps his pancake tortoise, spider tortoise, radiateds, stars and Galapagos hatchlings it will make you realize how little knowledge he has on caring for advanced species. He keeps them on dry coco fibre in open...
Little update on my zombensis, the two males have been mounting the females only when it rains which is almost daily now. It is interesting to see that they will only go through sexual intercourse when rain is present, must be their wild stimulus to breed. Really glad that they acclimated...
