HELP! My tortoise has laid eggs!

Wow! 8 years!. Personally I don't think we will get any where with these ones. We simply do not have the kit to keep them at the right temp and humidity and I'm not even sure Ramses has it in him to fertilise Nefertari any way. But we'll see...

HELP! My tortoise has laid eggs!

Thank you all. I don't think they will hatch but who knows. This could be the first clutch of many more to come...

HELP! My tortoise has laid eggs!

Went to clean 'Tortoise Hall' and found two eggs! Nefetari and Ramses (Hermanns) have been busy! But will they hatch and what can we do to make our hopefully parents to be happy and comfortable? Your advice is most welcome...

Our new indoor enclosure for our two Hermanns...

We have tried all sorts of substrates and switch regularly now. Nefertari seems happy on woodchips and hay at the moment. I guess she seems happy as she has laid eggs!

Our new indoor enclosure for our two Hermanns...

I had been toying with this idea for a long time and finally bit the bullet. I bought an office desk that was for sale locally on eBay for £30 and I designed the table using it as a base. Any comments and guidance would be most welcome, be it about layout, substrate or lighting. What they...

    Hello from North East England...

My wife told me a little more about him being found. The dog did damage his shell (I can't remember how badly) to the point it had tooth marks in it. two of which can still be seen. One of them is that red mark to the front of his shell under his neck and there is a split next to it. The other...

    Hello from North East England...

Thanks for the warm welcome all! So kind! And thank you for your patience when I came in and effectively 'shotgun blasted' a load of questions at you all in my first post. I really appreciate the advice given so far. I think the new place will be great for them. As I see it there are four areas...

    Hello from North East England...

Thanks for the welcome Grandpa! HermanniChris thank you so much for that information. We have wondered since 2006 about Ramesses and of course we have had Nefertari we have owned for 4 days so it's great to know that our pot luck has given us 'matching pals'. Now we need to get them both on...

    Hello from North East England...

Here are the dimensions. My wife said I made it too deep and the kids won't be able to see in. She suggested 30cm height. I went for 40cm on the sides as I wanted enough depth to fill with a good amount of 'digging depth and I was worried that if the lights were mounted too close they could...

The foundations of the new home. Finally choosing the wood and having the sheet of 2440mm x 1220mm cut to my required measurements at my local hardware store. 12mm external plywood with cedar (I think) facings. This was just for the sides. The base is the original desk top as the veneer...

'Mr Grumpy' up close. Notice those red areas on his lower shell at the front edge? That doesn't look healthy! They look like splits or chunks missing. His deformed shell. Your thoughts on the poor chap?

    Hello from North East England...

Thanks Crimson. Neffy has a much shorter tail than Rammy. Her papers say she is a girl too. I have just taken Rammy out of the tank to do some close up photos of him and his beak is very long. I wanted to show the misshapen shell. My wife tells me he did receive some damage from the...
