I agree as well. But like I said, I'm not having much luck finding a breeder of r.p. manni turtles.
I'm not really looking for a debate over whether or not I should buy online, I am asking about peoples experiences buying a turtle online. I'd just like to know what websites are legit and which...
I'm in no rush to get a turtle though. I may luck out and find a local breeder soon. Right now, I'm just curious about other peoples experience buying a turtle online. I'm personally skeptical about the idea of buying a turtle from a website. But if others have had success with it maybe I'll do...
Ornate/painted wood turtle (Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima manni). I would prefer to find a breeder, but I'm not having much luck tracking one down. I live near Chicago. There are reptile specialty shops and regular exotic animal shows in the Chicagoland area, and still can't find a breeder. Theres...
I'm debating buying a turtle online. Before I do so, I'd like to hear from others who have done so. What website did you use? Did the turtle/tort arrive healthy? Would you do it again?
For box turtles I would say that as long as you have a basking spot where they can get a bunch of UV and shade spots where they can hide then you should be all good.
Thanks folks!
Then my current collection is 0.0.1 Florida Box. I know how to differentiate the sexes, but mine is just over a year old so it is to young to call for sure.
A lot of people have lists of their turts and torts and they are listed for example 0.0.3 Gulf Coast Box Turtle. What do the numbers mean? I see them on lots of other reptile forums as well.
According to the box the light came in, 90% of the wavelength emitted is invisible infrared light. The research I've done so far has turned up a few claims that turtles don't see red very well. So if only 10% of the light is visible, in a color turtles supposedly have a hard time seeing, I feel...
Well I've only heard about the bad of red lights from other reptile keepers, via word of mouth/internet forum. The research I've done myself suggests that red bulbs are fine. Can you find credible source that these bulbs are bad? From my understanding it provides heat and non-visible infrared...
Agreed you should keep them inside this winter. Something else to consider is where you live, and whether or not your boxies are native to your area. For example, I live in Chicago and have a Florida box turtle, so I'm probably never going to let it hibernate in the outdoor enclosure. Your three...
I happen to score this 40 gal tank for a steal of a price. So it will make the winter home for my Florida box turtle. I plan to add something to block the glass and maybe another plant or two. Any other suggestions for things to add?
I've never seen an adult EBT with a shell like that. Younger ones don't always have as vibrantly colored shells though. Definitely looks like a three-toed hybrid of some kind to me.
This actually looks a lot like the plastron of my Florida box. Florida and Ornates do look pretty similar though. The orange on the head/neck looks typical of a three-toed though. If nothing else, you have one very beautiful box turtle.
So I bought a wildflower mix seed packet for the outdoor enclosure I'm building. It has the following flowers:
calendula
cornflower,
pained daisy
garland daisy
larkspur
baby's breath
tree mallow
mallow
soapwart
zinnia dahlia
coreopsis
dianthus
clarkia
helichrysum
corn poppy
phlox
centaurea...
