Does anyone know if little baby spiders will injure my yearling leopard tortoise? They seem to be little grey baby spiders currently and i definitely dont know what species they are. I live in MD for any spider experts or people that have dealt with this before that can help! Thanks!
Hey everyone,
So I wanted to share my new enclosure that I built for my soon-to-come leopard tortoise that I purchased from @diamondbp that will be arriving sometime this week or next (depending when I get the temps and timers situated properly.
Materials:
1 - 3x3x3 mini greenhouse from...
Wondering if this Portulaca is safe to feed to a leopard tortoise? I understand not directly from the store because of the fertlizer but I am curious if they can eat it at all?
Thanks!
So I am sure someone has asked this question before, but as I look further into it, I am having trouble locating them.
My question here is if I buy a plant from say Home Depot or Lowes, is it safe to feed to my tortoise.
I assume it is not, so my question is how or when is it safe, assuming...
So i have a closed chamber setup right now and I in my past closed chamber for my last leopard I had cocoa coir, orchid bark and sphagnum mixed up for a substrate.
What I am wondering is what successes you guys have had for substrste. I am thinking of just doing cocoa fiber but I am afriad...
Hey guys so as I grow ever closer to getting another leopard tortoise with the help of several of you on here (you know who you are). I am expanding on what I knew and had from before, and trying to take it to the next level.
As far as food, flowers, weeds, grasses, clovers, cactus pads are...
Sooo a couple years back I was highly active on the tortoise forum threads. I posted often, and still do have an average understanding of a little bit of everything in the tortoise world.
I had a paradalis babcocki, who I received from a breeder as a baby, and grew him out of infancy. Some of...
One of the new babies I got who is about 6 weeks old, has not eaten in three days. I do not want to stress myself out, as I know the baby is probably stressed from shipping, as well as probably reluctant to try new foods. This will be day 3 without eating, so do you guys think I should start...
Well just as the breeder promised, they are finally here! I have chosen to name the very pale one (far left) Sonia, and the less pale one (far right) Mr. Saturn. They have already been soaked and fed (although only Sonia took a few bites) and they habe beight eyes and clear nares. All look well...
A few months back I purchased my beleoved leopard tortoise (babcocki) Simon from "Rick" on kingsnake. Simon arrived in excellent condition and is thriving today, gaining usually 5-6 grams a week! I just ordered 2 more baby leos that will arrive here in the morning tomorrow! I will update...
For those that don't know, Simon will be 5 months on June 21st, and as @Tom says, I have caught the tortoise bug (except its only the leopard strain). I do not have any other leopards besides Simon and I was thinking about possibly purchasing 2 more from the same breeder who I was very pleased...
So there is not really a "care sheet" in the star tortoises thread, and I think I have a grasp on what there requirements are but please correct me if I am wrong and make adjustments to my presumptions.
Humidity:
-High 80% minimum (obvious)
Diet:
-Grasses and weeds mainly, greens and mazuri...
I have recently been looking at Star tortoises and radiated tortoises. I still have much to learn on them and I definitely would not be getting one anytime soon, but something struck me as odd when I was looking at for sale ads posted for them. Some people sell Sri Lankan stars for 500$ for a...
Although this is not a "near" future thing, I plan on getting another tortoise in some part of the future. I currently have a leopard now, and have experience with redfoots, I think trying something new and relatively unique would be a rewarding experience. I have narrowed it down to two...
I just finished up my new indoor enclosure for Simon. It is 2ft by 4ft which i know is not a forever home, but for his tiny size I thought anything bigger would make him look tinier than he already does. It holds humidity at 87% consistently even with the tent cracked to let some air in.
The...
I always seem to get at least one awesome picture everytime I take them of Simon eating with him sticking his tongue out at me haha... Maybe its because he chews so darn slow... Post your favorite tongues out pictures!
The thing that really got me into tortoises, which may sound very strange was my fish tanks. My love of all of my tanks, turned into wanted to add turtles, which turned to terrapins, which turned to tortoises. I am curious if anyone on here has any tanks or loves fish as much as their torts...
So in 4 days I will be home from college and I plan to upgrade Simon's indoor enclosure to something much larger. Right now he is in his 50 gallon rubbermaid, but I am thinking making something similar to what @Elohi has. He is only 2.5 right now but he is growing fast! Any ideas?
So I was just wondering about the growth of hatchling tortoises as far as visible growth is concerned. Is there a way to tell that a tortoise is about to grow besides his eating behavior? Us there something that happens to the shell that shows physically he/she will be growing? Does it vary with...
I was just wondering after viewing some pictures if there are a lot of people on the forum who are around the age of 20 or younger. If so post what kind of tortoise you own and where it's kept! No shame in being young either.
I am a 20 year old college student living off campus in a house (not...
