Good god, mine has cleaned out another terrarium. It was full with grass and weeds several times taller than him. Now, there's nothing in there but dirt.
Next week, I will have some time off. I'm thinking of sealing off a section of my home office for him. I'll plant more stuff there...
Speaking as an arachnid collector, this thread reminds me of some dumbasses I encountered some time ago. They decided to go on a tarantula collecting trip. A little later, they came to me and asked me a question that almost made me explode.
See, tarantulas in the wild live in these burrows...
So, since the cold temp set in, I've been having mine inside the house. I also grow weeds and grass in terrariums for him to have fresh greens.
Anyway, before I left a couple days ago, the tank he was in still had a lot of weeds and grass. I came back last night and the tank was more like...
The reason gloves keep our hands warm is because our bodies produce our own heat. Sulcatas are cold blooded animal. The gloves only helps to keep in the heat that's already there. Long term use aren't really helpful.
The reason you haven't heard of this is because we live in a politically correct society where pretty much everything is taken as an insult. Speaking as an immigrant who was born in a house with a dirt floor and spent the first years of my life not knowing what the hell meat was, trust me on...
Don't get me wrong. You CAN overfeed him and cause pyramiding by feeding him stuff you got from the petstore.
Commercialized products usually have more nutrients packed in them then grass. And remember that they still have the instinct to eat all day long. So, provide them with enough...
While I have seen many people reporting that their tortoises would eat this and that, I've actually never observed mine do such thing. Remember that sulcatas are grazing animals. They're like cows. You can't treat them like your dogs where you put food down twice a day or something. They eat...
I've noticed that tortoises from the south tend to be bigger at the same ages than their northern tortoises counterparts. I'm in the Chicago area and mine is growing painfully slow.
What I'm thinking is that half of the year the temperature just doesn't go up to high 70s to 80s. I try to...
J.C. (original word abbreviated by mod), haven't you people seen battlestar galactica? You want to replace man with machine? What's next? A holographic dog?
Guys, looking at the pictures of these tortoises, I don't really see any health issues. If these people want to put diapers on their tortoises and treat them like house dogs, and if the tortoises aren't stressed or abused, I don't see why not.
Haha, I guess you're right. The point is I don't give up at the first sign of trouble like most people. And I'm willing to do a lot to accomodate for my pets.
Speaking of which, I just ordered some mazuri. Hopefully, my little one will pick up his growth rate.
Edit.
And I'm not one...
Unlike most people, I'm willing to go pretty far for my pets. I have 3 extra bedrooms in my house so they could stay in the winter months. For the warm months, they could roam the yard, which is fenced in. As they get older, I plan to gradually modify the fence to reenforce.
Trust me...
Here is an idea. I live in the Chicago area. For the winter, I have several terrariums set up to grow fresh plants. I already have one sulcata about your size. I'll be more than happy to meet you somewhere to pick up your lady.
We need to do something quick, though. Your sulcata is a...
