    Mental health of tortoise

Claude (who was Maude until clearly was a Claude) is my male 10in redfoot. He lives outside in a large enclosure about 16ftx20ft. I have had him several years now and now that he has reached sexual maturity I find myself questioning the best environment for him. He has a nice enclosure with...

    Sulcata advise

How and why do you keep a 200lb tortoise inside???? What were his former owners thinking? Especially since he was in Florida? Does this happen a lot with these big guys? Do you just dedicate a whole room or floor to your tortoise? Maybe I am really naive but Wow I am stunned! Sorry-not trying...

    ~Protein Day, Boiled egg~Pic heavy~ENJOY PICS~PIC VERY HEAVY~

I gave Maude boiled eggs one time and holy moley they DO NOT agree with her--talk about the stinkiest smelliest diarrhea(sp?) ever! From now on we stick with boiled chicken and cat food for her protein.

Why Aren't Tort Owners More Concerned About Predators?

Like Yvonne said-only predators I am worried about are nocturnal-I have a dog door and greyhounds and they keep my yard free of predators during the day especially cats and those dangerous bunnies and squirrels. They have no interest in Maude and do not jump into her pen. (I would say cannot...

    Too hot for outside?

Hey all-Quick Question, I live in Charleston,SC, where the actual summertime temperatures get to about 96-99. The humidity here is extremely high so with our heat index the "feel like" temperature can get between 106-115. At what point do I need to bring Maude back inside-or do I? Her pen has...

    Outdoor Living

Sooo....I built Maude's pen before I brought her home last year. I swear she looked bigger in the 10 gallon tank at Petsmart! It's like playing Where's Waldo to find her in these first two. So clearly she needed a safer place for when I am not home and overnight-so I added...

    Companion Opinions

Many thanks for all the replies. It sounds like Maude will be happy either way! It will really be for my enjoyment if I add to my family. So...next question....another girl? Same size? I don't ever want to deal with fertilized eggs. Also-at what age do they begin to lay?

    Companion Opinions

Hey all, I would like your opinions on whether this species of tortoise likes having a companion. I have thought of getting Maude another redfoot to pal around with but I think they may be solitary creatures in the wild? For those of you who have more than one, what is your experience? Do...

    Meet Maude

Hey-Was too excited about finding the forum to think my name was as important as Maude's ! :) My name is Catherine. Here is Maude's outside pen. Right now when I am not at home and overnight she has to stay in the chicken wire part of the enclosure as I worry about raccoons and cats messing...

    Meet Harold

Sorry about not introducing myself-my name is Catherine. And yes, Maude got her name because we named Harold first. I am sure that he has a different name at every house he visits! And I agree--we are so lucky to be in his territory. I think he knows when people are in the houses and that...

    Meet Harold

Yesterday I introduced you to my girl Maude. Today please meet Harold-a wild redfoot that lives on St Johns in the Virgin Islands. Every year when we go down he always shows up around our house snooping around for some scraps. He is such a cool dude and the reason i wanted to find a redfoot as...

    Meet Maude

We are in Charleston, SC. Don't worry-she has a timed heater in her outside house that keeps it about 72 overnight as long as air temp is in the 60s. Anything below 60 overnight and she has to come back inside.
