    Redfoot with Two Russians???

They did not get fruit that often. May be once every 3 months I'd buy them some catcus fruit or a kiwi as a treat. But they would only eat half of it. I had that squash laying around for a few weeks. I did not want it, so I figured it would be a nice "goodbye treat." I fed them a diet of...

Two Russians: St. Clair, Michigan area

I forgot to mention that I free feed. They generally seem to eat two meals each day: one in the morning and one at night. Sometimes they just graze. Really depends what you give them and how lively they feel. I generally toss in a fistful of mixed organic greens. I add more if they run out...

Two Russians: St. Clair, Michigan area

I have two russian tortoises. I'm in Marine City, Michigan. My blasted cat is making me give them up. When she was a kitten, she was good with them. Now that she is bigger, she is more rough with them. Plus, I adopted a feral cat. Not sure how safe they are around her. I need to adopt...

    Question about mating

Sonya never did lay eggs. Within the last week to week and a half, Boris' life has revolved around three things: eating, sleeping and mating. I was under the impression that females will fight off advances made during mating. In fact, everything I ever read stated that. Boris is doing the...

    Mating...

It might be a territory thing. You introduced your tort into your cousin's enclosure. Your cousin's tort might be showing your tort who the big boss is. Both tortoises sound too small to mate. --Beth

    Question...

I noticed in the last few days, she has been digging, loosing interest and walking away. Normally if she digs, she burrows herself. She's not doing that now. Still going after the calcium. The feeding frenzy has quited down, but she is still eating more than normal and been more active...

    Question...

The only thing that has changed in their enclosure is the seedling that one of them "planted." Acorn squash seedling to be exact (which grow at incredible rates). Considering she has stopped growing, it makes sense. I am looking into getting a bigger enclosure. Due to an emergency, I was...

    Question...

Water: I sunk in a shallow bowl a bit wider than Sonya. I keep that full of water at all times. Truth be told, I have never seen my torts drink. They like to lay in it. The substrate (60/40 ECO Earth coconut coir/sand) is moist enough where it forms a crumbly ball when squeezed together...

    Question...

Some info: My Boris is 5 inches wide. Sonya is about 6 inches. Recently (within the last week), Sonya has been incredibly active compared to normal. Her appetite has increased dramactically. She ate about 2/3 of a head of romaine lettuce (Boris got the rest of it). She then started...

    Is this ideal?

emysemys, that's what I was doing for the longest time. I bought the thermometer/hydrometer because Sonya is finally old enough to lay eggs. I wanted to be as percise as possible so that any resulting hatchlings would be strong and healthy. Thanks for the warning about the tile. I will...

    Is this ideal?

I have not had a reliable hydrometer/thermometer for a long time (shame on me, I know). I ended up buying one today, an indoor/outdoor one from Lowes. Here's my readings: Cool end: 70.7 degrees Basking end: hovering around 93 degrees. Humidity: hovering between 55 and 59 percent. I am...

    Fleas...help!

Turns out that Nina's behavior has everything to do with her previous owner. I was talking to my assistant manager. Her previous owner is a self proclaimed wife beater. Nina's reaction to my boyfriend is not an aggressive response like I thought. Rather, it's a defensive response. Still, we...

    Wood?

So if I decide to use this fixture:Zilla Incandescent 20" Dual Bulb Reptile Fixture How would I mount that? Could I take a length of cord or some other heat resistant medium and hang it from the ceiling or what? I already have this and the stand that goes with it. Sorry for all of the...

    Fleas...help!

That clears it up. Thanks! I'm definately going to have to work with her on her behaviors. I know she's a sweet kitty. I think I know why she apparently hates men, but I agree, her behavior has to change. Thanks!

    Wood?

I wanted the tile (9 square feet-approximately) because Boris and Sonya have a habit of dragging their food out into the dirt. Plus, my cat loves "visiting" her friends and I am tired of cleaning up the substrate she drags out in her fur. She'll lay on the tile before she lays on the substrate...

    Wood?

Here's the plans. I'm getting more than plenty back on my federal tax return to pay for this. From my calculations, I am going to spend approximately $300. This is the top view: Here's a 3-D drawing: The river rock I plan to use is way too big for the tortoises to eat. I am using...

    Enclosure for a Russian

For my russians I keep the hot end anywhere from 90 to 100 degrees (depending on if it's winter or summer here. Winter, it's 100. Summer it's at 90). So, 95 sounds about right. Seems like you have a great temperature difference. I like the idea of a back up heater for the cool end!

    Fleas...help!

I am sorry. I don't know. We got her this last Christmas Eve. She came from my coworker who happens to have a drinking problem. From our observations, our conversations with our vet, a friend at the local humane society and a friend who happens to be a vet tech, we have a strong feeling she...
