    Tracking device on a tortoise?

Hello guys, Me and my girlfriend just moved to our new house with a garden. I brought my Russian tortoise (male, around 8 years old) with me, so he can finally enjoy outdoor and roaming time in our garden. At my new home I want to make a escape proof enclosure for him. I am also a control...

    Kidney stone?

Hello guys, I was cleaning the enclosure of my Russian last night (male, around 7 years old). I saw some whitish/grey thing in dirt. I thought it was a piece of her endive or poo. I picked up and it was very hard and solid, like stone. I washed the dirt off and it really was a piece of stone. I...

Russian tortoise 3 days without food

I have a male russian of around 6 years old. He has a good appetitte and eats everyday. Problem is he only eats when it is offered to him. So only hand feeding my tortoise will make him eat. Food I put down on his plate he ignores. I have a busy week with work and I'll be gone for 3 days. That...

Those who live in an appartment

How do you handle outdoor time for your tortoise? I moved to an appartment like 5 months ago. I used to live at my parents and they had a big garden. During warm sunny days I let my Russian tortoise roam in the garden for some sun rays and bigger space to roam. I took my tortoise with me when I...

Hello guys, Last weekend I've brought over my Russian tortoise (male, around 6 years old I think) to my parents house. They have a big garden for my tortoise to roam. Also the weather is quite nice and sunny this week. Temps is around 25 C (77F) in the afternoon, so it's quite warm and sunny...

Living in an appartment and getting outdoor time?

Hello guys, I'll be moving to an appartment next week to live on my own. Ofcourse, I'll be taking my Russian tortoise with me. As I won't have a big garden, which my parents' house do have, I was wondering how my tortoise is gonna catch outdoor time and natural sun light. Neither does my...

    Very active but not eating?

To be honest he only eats dandelion flowers and leaves. In the could winter months he would eat store bought endive. He refuses to eat any other food.

    Very active but not eating?

Hello guys, I have a Russian tortoise, male and around 5-6 years old. Beginning this week he made a 360 turn in behaviour: from being very calm to very active, but not eating. The last few months my tortoise was very calm. Not strange I assumed, because of the cold and rainy weather. He would...

    Are tortoises weakend/tired after medications?

Im sorry to hear. Having a sick tortoise always makes me feel really bad and stressed. Being sick and being treated with anti biotic the same time can upset the tortoise, hence being lethargic and tired. At least, that was with my tortoise. He started to bump up after a week or two. What also...

Soaking in warm water from the tap?

Hello there, I couldn't find any thread about this topic, so yeah: Is it okay to soak tortoises (in my case a male Russian) in warm tap water? Sometimes we would drink during his soaks. For us humans it is clear that warm tap water ain't healthy, but I'm questioning if it is okay for tortoises...

    Unusual behaviour - Russian tortoise

I have a Russian totoise, male and I estimate he is around 5-6 years old. For a year he has been very active. Even during the cold dark winter months last year he was more active than usual. However, I think a month ago, he has slowed down alot. He doesn't come out his hide to roam, eat or bask...

    Help with timer

I saw this timer that can handle wattage to 1800W, so I think I'm gonna get that one. One question though: can a light timer also be combined with power strip? I have a power strip with 3 outlets that I use for the UVB lamp and heat lamp. If it is possible I want to set both lamps on a timer...

Hi, I have a Russian tortoise around 5 years I think. This week I've noticed there is a bit of shell peeling at his right leg. Is this something I should be worried about? Or is this part of the shell growth? He's still eating and active though. Regards, Geng

    Baytril injections

I once took my russian tortoise to the vet because he was inactive for weeks. The vet randomly gave him an injection of baytril without properly analyzing what the problem was, because it was 'a cure that cures everything'. However, my tortoise seem to get worser with every injection. On the...

Help: sick / weak tortoise (no worms, parasite or RI)

Hi Dubrov, I think my tortoise wanted to hibernate back then. During my 2 weeks absent my parents would put out her lamps after 6 hours, would explain why he gotten less active. Ofcourse I didn't know that back then, so I took him to the vet. The anti-biotic only made it worse though. I...

    Russian Tortoise Help

Can't get any better. Seems he was just brumating. Mine is still brumating, but I'm gonna soak him daily after work to bump him up. After his soak last night, he finally ate a bit of his veggies on his own when I put it down, ofcourse going back to his hide quick after. But it is a good sign.
