Male tortoise has injured Female tortoise

[hr] Thanks for the info. I thought I did have a large enclosure and plenty of hides. I think this tortoise just doesn't know to get away. I think I will keep her separated for some time. The wounds are quite big and I am sure the male will just go at her again. I have smaller females...

Male tortoise has injured Female tortoise

I have a large female Russian tortoise that has been injured by a male Russian tortoise. The male tortoise has repeatably bitten the females front legs in trying to get the female in the right position to mate. My tortoises are kept outside so I did not notice that this was happening until it...

Thermostat and heat lamp for outside enclosure

I need some help. My husband has agreed to help me build a hide for my tortoises now that cooler weather is almost here. I don't know anything about hooking up a heat lamp to a thermostat so the temp can stay correct. Has anyone done this and if so do you have brand names or model numbers of...

    Does anyone have this ebook?

I purchased the e-book. It is very basic and did not provide me with any new information. I had done some research on-line and saw some of the info contained in the e-book posted on-line for free. I would spend my money on buying some good food for the Russians instead. Just my opinion!!!!

    Rowdy Russian

I have a male russian also. When mine takes off like that he is usually looking for a place to hide. I did get him two female friends recently. He still takes off running. The two females hang out together more than the males/females.

I hope she is. I have read that Russians do not reproduce well in captivity so we will see. I will be sure and let everyone know how it turns out. In the meantime, I will read-up on my duties as a surrogate mom.

    Breeding Signs??????

I have two Russians ....male and female. How long after mating does the female produce eggs if she is going too? Can you see changes in the tortoise such as weight gain, shell growth etc? I swear my female looks fatter and wider in the rear. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part. Any other...

How many tortoises can safely be together without problems?

Thank you for the info. I thought I should keep them separate but I saw many on this and other web sites that have many different turtles and tortoises. I thought maybe they keep them together. I am still trying to figure out what sexes I have. One tortoise refuses to show me their tail. I will...

How many tortoises can safely be together without problems?

I have a very big enclosed outside area about 24 ft X 17 ft. Only two Russian tortoises live there now. I see other tortoises needing a home in my area and I am tempted to adopt them. Not sure how many is too much, different sexes better than same?, and can different breeds live in harmony...

How will I know that it is too cold for tortoise to stay outside?

I have two Russian tortoises. One is young maybe 4 or 5 years old. The other is about 30 years old and recently given to me. Right now they stay outside during the day and I bring them in at night. I think they would prefer to stay outside because I always find them buried in the dirt and...
