    Euonymus fortunei (climbing euonymus) leaves

My greek found some of the new leaves/vines growing at the base of our euonymus tree and took a few bites. I know that the fruit of most euonymus bush/trees are poisonous. How bad are the leaves, and do I need to worry? http://pick4.pick.uga.edu/mp/20q?search=Euonymus+fortunei

    Camera shy

Gaia enjoying some outdoor time and fresh weeds today (please excuse her Zoo Med Grassland face) ... I bring out the camera and she gets up an walks away. Once those legs get moving, she's fast! You can see she's flicking her tail at me as she storms off at the end.

    Species ID (antakyensis or terrestris?)

I've been trying to research and figure this out on my own, but am not realy confident. My tortoise has a wide 5th vertebral scute, but I can't really say for sure if it is definitely larger than the 3rd scute (which I understand is an antakyan characteristic). My guess is Syrian T. g...

    What is this? Lettuce?

This plant has taken over my entire property. I know the previous home owner planted a large variety of vegetables including lettuce varieties. Is this a lettuce variety? My golden greek will eat it occasionally, but will often pass it up for nearby dandelions, violets, or hollyhocks.

    Decreased activity (evistation season?)

I've only owned my golden greek (T. graeca terrestris/antakyensis) Gaia since February. Lately I've noticed that she is not prowling around for food as actively, is eating only about half the amount she used to, and is burrowing in her warm side hide a lot more. Ambient and basking temperatures...

    DIY parabolic reflector

Since increasing the size of my enclosure, I've wanted to increase the ambient lighting and overall UVB levels on the cool side of the box. The single 18" Zoo Med tube and hood-mount fixture wasn't cutting it. So I decided to try an $8 24" under-cabinet fixture from Walmart. I hadn't had much...

    Gaia's new bigger cat-proof enclosure

After having her 3 months, I decided to upgrade Gaia's enclosure from a 4x2 to a 6x2, adding in the the features she likes best (warm side pig-pen hide, large slate eating areas, etc). I found that panels scavenged from those foldable dog exercise pens make very sturdy screens for the top. I'm...

    Doesn't use hides - normal?

My adult female (T. G. terrestris) never uses her hide placed on the cool side of the enclosure, and spends most of the daytime under the basking spot (Powersun 100W). At night she just burrows in the corner on the same side. During the day, warm side is 90 deg (100+ deg under lamp) and the cool...

    simple gender question

Rather than hijack another thread, can the board experts tell me if I have a female (what I thought) or a male? He/she is about 5.5" SCL and approx 7-10 yrs old (again, my guess).

    Hay/Grass Diet Percentage for Greeks

I'm still trying to hone in a good diet mix for my new golden greek. She's constantly on the prowl for food and I want to leave a wide variety of little piles in her enclosure so she has enough to eat throughout the day. Today, I soaked some orchard hay and she gobbled it up! Would a daily...

    PetsMart Greek (Golden?)

I was browsing Petsmart and ran into a new batch of greeks they has crammed into a glass tank. They said these were captive bred and have only been it the store for about a week. Can anyone identify the region where these greeks came from? I was interested in the big one in the middle (was...

    Newbie in Colorado

I've been lurking here for a while, but thought I'd introduce myself now that I am planning and getting a tortoise in the near future (russian, hermanns, or greek). I used to own a shy female greek when I lived in CA, and I've been missing the experience since moving here to CO in 2006...
