I wanted to post these pics of an enclosure my husband and I made for my new redfoot. We took an old TV cabinet/chest and revamped it. I think it came out great! I just need to add a ramp and second level now. We put linoleum down on the bottom to protect the wood, wired in lights and the hide...
Thank you so much for your post on shell rot! I'm getting my first redfoot tomorrow and have been trying to figure out the humidity.there's so much info out there it's confusing. I think I'll try the sponges idea, that great! What do I need the humidity to be for price health? I'm curious, what...
Im getting a redfoot and have coconut husk substrate. What is the proper humidity level? It's a closed enclosure. Do I just water the substrate or do I need a fogger? If a fogger does anyone have a way to make one without having to buy them? Thanks
So I'm getting my redfoot tomorrow and have a red lite for nite. I also saw infared heat lights, black lights and CHE. So if I understand no red of any kind? The blacklight I don't think emitted heat. I'd like some lite at night so how would a CHE and blacklight be?
I'm getting my first redfoot. I have the closed enclosure with Zoo med eco earth coconut husk now. Is this best? There's so much out there on substrates! I also wonder about cypress mulch or orchid bark? I read to use dirt mixed with a little play sand is great. I just don't know. I have bad...
I'm planning on building a closed chamber for my redfoot. does it have to have ventilation? I'm going to make the top glass but if so how do I mount the che heater and UVB lite? can they sit on top of the glass or do I leave a space on topen open for the lite and heater?
I'm getting a 2yr old redfoot. I'm going to build an enclosure but am unsure of a couple things. would 4ftx2ft be big enough and I'm thinking of covering half of the top with glass for humidity and a heat light on the open half. does that sound ok? or should it be bigger? or do I have to cover...
OK. So what should I cover the top of the entire enclosure box with to control the environment? A screen or plexiglass? And how do I keep airflow in the box for the RF?
I've built a new enclisure for new redfoot. I understand I need to keep the underneath of the orchid bark moist for humidity. One suggestion. Was to cover the box. I have no way to do this. I've heard of humidity boxes inside enclosures. Is this a good idea? If so how do I make one? Thanks
I was planning on using a CHE for night heat but I don't know if this is best. Do tortoises need the red light at night and does this produce enough heat?
It is for a 2yr old redfoot, approx 5 inches. I am using orchid bark for the substrate. It is going to first be in a temporary enclosure of a 20gal Long tank with a screen lid because the turtle box is not yet ready. That is going to be about 5ft by 3 ft, I think, open top. I've been looking...
I'm new to this and getting my first tortoise. From what I understand I need to keep the underneath of the substrate moist for humidity but not the top. How do you do that? If I mist, that is only going to get the top layer.
I'm getting a 2 yr old redfoot. I'd like to get a pair but I've read posts that this may not be a good idea. They've always been together so would this be OK?
