I am located just outside of Pensacola, FL. I have an adult male Hermans that I acquired at the beginning of November 2016 (off Craigslist, so I know nothing of his origins or age). He is now in good health, having spent 4 weeks at the vet recovering from an upper respiratory infection (that he...
How does one go about reporting a member/discussing concerns? Who are the forum owners/moderators? I primarily use the app so I think this information is hard to find or not even present to begin with :)
So, I've got to get my new guy over his addiction to grocery store greens, particularly romaine. It's what he's used to. I'm offering it and mazuri and grasses/weeds and he only eats the greens/lettuce. If I take the greens completely away, will he starve himself or eat the grass/mazuri?
We have always loved using Milorganite to fertilize our yards. I am wondering if it is tortoise safe at all. It says it's organic, but I know nothing about fertilizers (except to keep torts away). Here it is if you have no idea what I am talking about:

Here are his pictures (I am switching the clear shoe box out for a non clear tub today).
Isn't he fabulous? Also, anyone know if he's male or female? I need to think of a proper name.
I was so upset about the loss of my baby and looked on craigslist...someone was selling their tort (he is either a Hermanns or a Marginated - I will post pics for you guys later to help ID, I don't want to handle him now) and I immediately took the bait. He is active and minimal pyramiding (but...
I realized I never posted one of these...I just jumped right in. I'm a 33/F from the western Florida Panhandle. I have a husband and two daughters...ages 2 and 3....and an awesome rescue dog and cat. If you are into dogs, he has his own Facebook page that tracks his progress from an emaciated...
So I just discovered the MVB I'm using is 160 Watts, which I knew, but what I didn't know was the lamp fixture I'm using (it's a double) supports only up to 100 Watts per dome. How much trouble am I in here? Am I going to start a fire?
So I got my golden Greek baby today :) SO tiny...super tiny in his giant table. He has not eaten (I unboxed him this morning) and "gone to bed" already and I'm trying not to be scared out of my mind. I gave him a nice soak as soon as I got him and have been misting him all day.
I had some of my seeds arrive today (which are planted in my greenhouse) and my tortoise table and many of my supplies! Now to start tinkering with my setup! So excited. Hopefully I will be ordering my tortoise soon!
Hi all...I'm looking for feedback on this list I've been making. It lists all the plants I have at my house (and what I have coming) and whether they are edible or not. Some things I'm not 100% sure about. Here it is:
*Edibles:
Christmas Cactus
Aloe
Pansy
Petunias
Mexican Heather
Prickly Pear...
So, living in the south US, we have lots of these. The grass in my yard is centipede and I have several varieties of crape myrtle trees planted. I have spent hours and cannot find mention of my grass or trees in relation to feeding tortoises. Any ideas?
I don't know this is entirely a debatable topic, but perhaps. Anyway, since I've been considering getting a tortoise (not from PetSmart or a big box pet store), I've been doing tons of research. Since I know things now, I'm not happy about how the Greeks are being cared for at my local PetSmart...
So, looking to start a conversation here, hopefully with a lot of input from Tom! I was originally going to obtain a sulcata, but got frightened about his outdoor keeping. I have settled on a Greek, particularly a "golden" Greek, which from my limited research requires slightly different things...
So, this isn't actually an issue this year or for a couple years, but I am trying to get all the information I can. I will be getting a Sulcata hatchling very soon and already have the indoor enclosure all set up and I understand it. I am learning about how to successfully keep my tortoise...
