    Russian Tortoise Trio- SW Virginia

I'm in Roanoke and I'll try to get some pics up in a bit :) During the warmer weather, they lived outside in their 8x8ft secure enclosure. They are currently inside, during the winter, in about a 3x6ft area with a cypress mulch substrate. Constant access to fresh water (drinking and soaking)...

    Russian Tortoise Trio- SW Virginia

Hi :) We found out that we are moving into a smaller home and we will not have space to give them the enclosure size that they need/deserve, so we are looking for a new home for them. The trio includes 2 females and 1 male. I am asking $50 ea for them. I am not currently interested in...

Thanks Yvonne and Neal! I had just never heard of females having concave plastrons before, didn't even know it was possible.

Which is a better sign of gender- plastron or tail?

I am having trouble telling the gender of my adult 4 box turtles. If I were to go by concave plastron, I would have 3 boys and 1 girl but if I am to go by tail, I have 3 girls and 1 boy. So confused!!! Thanks!

    Gender help please

Thanks, both of you! They are so much fun! I love how different each of them is! I don't know which is a better indicator of gender, tail or plastron, does any one know? By plastron, I would say the 1st is the only female By tail, I would think maybe 1 and 2 female and 3 male as for 4-I'm...

    Hermit Crabs with Boxies

Hello :) I know there have been several threads about keeping hermit crabs with either box turtles or redfoot torts. In general, I LOVE the idea. I have kept small hermit crabs in with an adult box turtle before, but I am planning to get a couple of yearling boxies next week (yippeeee) and...

    Hermit Crabs?

How young of a boxie would you put in with the crabs? We have 3 small hermit crabs and I am planning to bring home 2-3 new (year old) boxie babies next week. Do you think putting them together would be a bad idea?

    YIKES!!!

I was mostly reacting to the first pic, the turt on the right, looks like he/she has some signifigant shell deformity. Maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks.
