    Beak trim?

Yes! Think this is the easiest and least traumatizing method!

    Beak trim?

Got it taken care of! Upside down didn’t give us access but we smeared some berry on the cement and that kept him occupied enough to snip away with a cuticle scissors. Super easy! Dandelion pic shows just the left “fang” and the other pic is the post raspberry beak trim. Thanks for the help...

    Beak trim?

My girl definitly seems to be struggling with bigger foods. She can eat grass and smaller weeds fine but she's not tearing apart the stuff we give her like she used to.

    Beak trim?

Thanks - she has access to a legit mud wallow. Maybe I'll add a splash pad. She does come out whenever it rains (which is pretty regularly). The vet literally said to use cuttlebone to keep her beak short which we knew about and we said she doesn't like it and she said to use powder instead. I...

    Beak trim?

Thanks so much - I was going to tag you to ask specifically! We have a pig whose hooves we trim and countless cats and dogs so surely if we can find a way to access her beak, we have the tools to handle it. I don't want to mess with a dremel because I think she would absolutely lose it. Does...

    Beak trim?

hi all - our girl, Benny, who is 6yo, has what I guess is an overgrown beak. She won’t eat cuttlebone and has been free ranging all summer so not eating on cement slabs like she used to. I know some small diet changes to help her going forward. But is this something we should take her to a vet...

How to handle this cold snap

We’ve been out since 2am. Moved the tortoise into a bin with hay and out the bin in my bathroom with my warm water running. Generating is attempting to heat our bedroom. It’s gonna be a long few days.

How to handle this cold snap

I assume this is true in colder climates so it makes it so much harder to maintain temps. Our house is insulted and completely waterproof but it’s not maintaining temps when the weather drops below 40. It wasn’t having an issue here until this freakish storm rolled in. But if I lived anywhere...

How to handle this cold snap

Some do! Mine loves the rain especially when it’s warm rain and he doesn’t mind the cold especially if it’s sunny as long as he has somewhere warm to return to. But by cold I mean 50-60 F, not 5 F!!

How to handle this cold snap

Ha! I’m from Michigan. Houston drivers can’t even handle a little rain. No way I’m going out in this.

How to handle this cold snap

Good point. I put blankets on the floor for tonight and can throw a heating pad down too but don’t trust that he won’t try to chew through the cord. I’ll move him upstairs tomorrow when I have family here to help me lug this fireplace upstairs.

How to handle this cold snap

Seriously. This is garbage. I already planted my spring garden so obviously I jinxed it for all of us. Thankfully our sulcata is not too big too bring inside right now. But he’s really not excited about it. He was out partying in the rain yesterday oblivious to the temps.

How to handle this cold snap

Thanks everyone! I brought him in and remembered I had a fireplace that’s essentially a space heater. So he’s in a bathroom now with that running.

How to handle this cold snap

We don’t have a space heater. This is Texas. I’m not even sure stores carry them! I don’t want to buy one for 5 days. I could maybe rig a basking light in the corner of a room. And I have a smaller dog house with hay he could bury in. Outside he will always be able to bask at 100. That’s very...

How to handle this cold snap

I live in Houston and our sulcata is just shy of 4 years old. He was newly moved outdoors this summer so this is our first winter with him outdoors. He has a Rubbermaid shed for heat with heat lamps and uvb when needed but we are in the middle of a short but unprecedented cold snap with lows...

I’m supplementing him because he doesn’t graze much. And there isn’t a ton of variety. We are planting seeds but meanwhile....

    Another annoying feeding thread :)

Our sully is 3 and we just transitioned him outside this summer. He has access to a ton of fresh grass, not many weeds. He has hay in his house but I’m not sure he eats it. I assume not. He’s always been a picky boy, intolerant of change. I see him eating the grass but not a ton. Based on his...
