    Aldabra yard expectations

Thank you on space/growth estimate. as far as the goats go, that’s the way our yard is. However, the sulcata does not eat the waste and the grass is thoroughly rinsed through irrigation 3x daily. I consider the goat pellets one of the most natural and mild forms of fertilizer I can use...

    Aldabra yard expectations

I am aiming to bring home 13-14" aldabra at the turn of the year to Southern CA. I have a nice large 4x4x2' heated enclosure for overnights and cold/rainy days in the welcome home season. My question is that it is coming from a 5x8' cypress mulch outside enclosure, i will have 6x20' fully...

The Tortoise Forum App is going to be disabled on Oct 1, 2019

I will be dropping off, life has moved itself onto iPhone for me, all products ordered, vendors researched and business run fully through iOS, and the mobile site in safari is super cluttered, the adds and interfaces are tough to use, but are nearly a non-issue on desktop. tapatalk is the only...

Sulcata needs a larger outside winter/night enclosure, also making room for 2x aldabras

Tom- Should I add a large (36”round) tall water bowl inside for humidity? Also which hay do you recommend for bedding?

Sulcata needs a larger outside winter/night enclosure, also making room for 2x aldabras

San Diego area, very mild weather. I decided to build this for my sulcata alone. I’ll build another/modify for aldabs when they arrive. I’m my experience, as long as its not exposed to elements, OSB holds up really well, for 5+ years at least. I did use CDX plywood on floor for smoothness and...

Sulcata needs a larger outside winter/night enclosure, also making room for 2x aldabras

I went with Tom’s night box build from long ago, and I think that max heights I have seen for sulcatas are 14” prone, 18” standing, and max width 24”, max length 34”. This enclosure is 41x89x 24” inside. I used a pressure treated 2x4 insulated footer, all sides insulated with 2” radiant foam...

    Interested in large Aldabras

I think that in general Aldabras and Galapagos are in a different boat than Sulcatas. The investment in one of these rarer breeds is not one taken lightly, and this cost generally creates much more research and consideration. Unlike sulcatas, you cannot find baby Aldabs in a pet store (really...

Sulcata needs a larger outside winter/night enclosure, also making room for 2x aldabras

Back to the drawing boards for designing a long term outdoor housing for some XL torts. My 5 year old sulcata has just about outgrown his evening hot-house, which is about 3x3', with floorspace taken up by an enclosed oil heater and a tortoise zoomed floor heater. He lives outside year round...

    Interested in large Aldabras

I have been through their site and most seem to have extra scute and only be in the 15-20” range. He is selling them as “adults” but they are almost certainly not 20+ years old and ready to potentially breed.

    Interested in large Aldabras

I want to get squared with breeding a 1.1 then expand over the years as I have the whole process down pat. It’s just the finding of large/old enough animals that is a hurdle.

    Interested in large Aldabras

Hello, I’m seeking out a reputable source of 1.1 or 2.2 20+ year old Aldabras of size that breeding would be possible given everything in order in their paddock. It appears that like Galapagos, very few breeding these successfully and even fewer selling torts of age. I understand about hefty...

    Cherry Head Hatchlings have landed

Update time! Unfortunately, while i was on vacation a month ago, my smallest runt was attacked by something and after much time at the vet, specialized housing and care, unfortunately he passed. Now i am down to 4. These seem to have periods where they just nibble a litte each day, then BOOM...

    Baby food soak help appreciated

His rear leg is clearly hurting, as towards the end of a days short walking he tries not to use it. His front foot, although missing 3 nails now, healed very quickly and he uses it without issue seemingly.

    Baby food soak help appreciated

Thank you. This situation being the first time away from home on a much needed family getaway, coming back to this and seeing how wretched he looked was really a heartbreaker. I think he is as comfortable as I can get him until the pain abates, then I'll focus on nutrition. Thanks everyone.
