He owns a sulcata and no box turtles because they are expensive. For those who want to know a bit about the chinese turtle market. In China, turtle hobbyists are more inclined to box turtles because of their monetary value, medicinal value ( sorry and yes some of us consume them ) and simply the beauty of their colours. For example, a chinese gold coin turtle may cost 3500USD per kg or sometimes even more for species like cuora. While it might be a delicate topic to discuss whether people consume these turtles, from the people i know who are keeping them, they are really keeping them as a lucky charm, and many breed them as an investment. They treat box turtles with great care. Unlike common turtles like red eared sliders that are considered disposable and cheap.

Hi and welcome to the forum. JohnR is right when I was in Hong Kong turtles and tortoises are looked at very different.
