3000g is a good weight and certainly large enough to start laying. They can lay at 2500g but I like to wait until 3000g when I can. Be sure to up the calcium availability for egg laying as the calcium need really increases dramatically. A clutch of eggs will be 10% or so of their body weight, and they will lay 3-4 clutches a season (in about 3 months) with proper food availability.

They have been growing well. They are around 3,500g, 3,000g, and 2,400g. And I have a couple of males for the larger two to hang out with.

My first Burmese Star Tortoise eggs have now gone from diapause in a wine fridge to incubation in a fancy incubator. They were scattered not buried and this is a first time layer. So, may not pan out. But, I am glad to get my first platynota eggs.

This is the female that laid the eggs. Her peak recorded weight was 3728g. Granted I wasn’t weighing very frequently.

Reading this thread from the beginning was a cool trip to take with you guys, thanks.

I like tomboys so I like your choice of names too!

The pics of them as babies, looked like little toy turtles you might find in a higher end gift shop! LOL

Well… After about six years of raising these girls up I finally have a hatchling!

I got some eggs from one of the girls last year. But, none of them were fertile. This year two of the three females laid and so far there are 8-9 fertile eggs. The last five that just went into the incubator were the new layer so not sure how the fertility will be. Just getting started but much better than last year and I finally have a success!
