The Silicon Valley Turtle and Tortoise Club is taking adoption applications for the rehoming of (3) Adult Male Sulcatas (35-60lbs) for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these lovely creatures, please contact me at [email protected] for an Adoption form. Sulcata’s require special care, as these guys get large (over 150lbs). All applicants wanting to adopt a Sulcata must show they have a large yard with no poisonous plants or harmful objects. Also, anything that can be destroyed such as sprinkler systems must be protected. Secure fencing or perimeter habitat must be suitable to house a Sulcata Tortoise. Sulcata’s reach sizes up to 24” long and 150-200lbs. They go through everything in their way. Also, potential new parents must be able to provide suitable housing such as heat enclosure (ex. Dog igloo) with sufficient heat from heat lamps and heat pads. Sulcata’s need to have at least 50% of natural grass to graze. If you do not have a yard (non fertilized) that is suitable to allow grazing, bales of Orchard Grass can be obtained at your nearest Feed Supply Store (avg. $25/bale). The remaining part of their diet consists of Fresh Vegetables and Mazuri Tortoise Chow. The food bill for these guys can average about $25.00 a week.

Also, we have plenty of Adult Red Ear Slider Aquatic Turtles for adoption through the SVTTC and BAARS clubs. These little guys need ponds or tanks at least 100 gallons or more. We prefer to see them go outside in ponds. Most of the ones we currently have are outdoors so they are acclimated to the colder temps right now. They have not hibernated yet.

Adoption applications are prescreened. Home visits may be required pending species. By filling out an application, this does not guarantee you will be allowed to adopt. All new parents must be members of the SVTTC or sign up to become members at the time of adoption. Donations are encouraged at the time of adoption to help care, feed and provide any medical for surrendered turtles and tortoises.

If you would like to inquire about the club, adoptions and/or membership, please visit www.tortoise.org/siliconvalley/ or email [email protected].

WE WILL NOT SHIP. Local homes only in the San Francisco Area/ Central Valley of California.
