hi all,
i have 20cm (about 8inch) red foot tortoise.
over past few years, she grew so much! because my enclosure seem too small, i decided to buy a bigger enclosure for my red foot. originally, i put her in my back yard and leave it throughout summer, but my tort seemed to have dry skin due to low humidity sometimes. (i live in Va) hence im buying a tank.

so, i looked up craigilist and found two things.
40gal (36x18x16)
and
75gal (48x18x18)

the thing about 75 is that the weith is same as 40 gal.
so im wondering which one should i buy.

of course when it reach certain size im willing to change my enclosure again. but as of right now it seems like this is the best choices

The bigger the better but for a tortoise that size it is still too small.

You will be better off just building your own tortoise table. I would say for a tort that size a 4/6 foot enclosure would be the smallest I would go . If it's got an outdoor enclosure and its to dry install a mister system .

A 75 gallon tank will work as an indoor enclosure for when you have the tort inside....here is a link to a viv...this one I believe is a 100 gallon tank but she also runs a 78 gal tank....a tank is a great way to retain humidity for this species of tort....since you have the tort an outdoor enclosure as well, you should be fine for a bit....

I would go with the 75 gallon, then flip it on it's side and close the back opening. I did this for my torts. They have extra room space, have a closed chamber with the lid I made, and my temps/humidity are spot on. Always go bigger!

Here's the link to how I made mine. Hope it helps.
