Hello, the bottom of a male indian star we just received is pretty indented. I was wondering if this is normal?

That is typical in the anatomy of males. So they can mount the female when breeding. This occurs in most(not all) species of turtles and tortoises.

Okay good to know! During my research I did not look into the breeding aspect much. Thanks so much! Other than that he seems happy and active!

Your very welcome. Especially in this species the males are much smaller than the females. Females will be 75% larger in mass than a male.
