Thanks, The reason they are visitors is that for roughly thirteen years now I have been picking up box turtles I find on the roads and highways, I will keep them anywhere from a few hours to a few days, I fatten em up on nightcrawlers check them out health wise and then take them to one of three locations miles into the pinebarrens. These locations had previously been scouted by me, one I have found box turtles at in the past the other two I never did but were surely suitable habitats. After the first five or so years of doing this I began finding box turtles in various stages of development at all three sites. Its been a happy project. My finds vary from year to year some I have found as many as twenty one year I found none the sad side of this is I'm running about 50/50, In other words for every one I find I see at least one crushed on the road. So theres a brief history of one of the projects I do.
I love box turtle faces. Those big eyes, the "smiling" mouth. Great colors, too. So cute.
