I am making a wood tortoise enclosure for our 2 year old RT, Franklin. I have read some posts that say to line the bottom with a shower curtain. Thoughts? I am worried if he digs down that far and tries to eat it he could be harmed. Also, do I need to treat the interior of the box with anything before laying down the substrate?

Thank you!

I've found plastic liners to not hold up well over the long term.

Some members recommend regular exterior primer and paint for open boxes that will be relatively dry. Seems like that wouldn't work for the level of dampness I keep in my substrate in my dry climate.

I recently tried DryLok and the bottom of my enclosure rotted out after two years. Fail.

This stuff is the best thing I have found. People make aquariums out of plywood using this stuff. Total non-toxic and 100% leak proof.
