:)HI all,

Just a little question about shell growth. Herbie's shell is generally smooth.I noticed today though a little flaky part in one of the corners on his shell which I scrached away, it looked a bit like dead skin, is that normal? I've only had Herbie for 3 months and want to make sure he's growing properly.

So many thanks
Helen

Hi Helen:

I don't remember if you've ever told us where you are located. I'm guessing by some of your words and the hibernating in the refrigerator question, etc. that you might be in the U.K.??

Where exactly was the flakey part? Was it in between the scutes or plates? This is probably normal. If it seems too dry, you can put a little olive oil on a Q-tip and paint the new growth areas...the areas in between the scutes. Don't put it all over the shell, only on the lines in between the plates.
