HI I'm new to the group. I have an adult desert tortoise maybe 35 years old. His name is Hank. His scutes are indenting. I live in Northern Nevada so we are a dry climate. I'm thinking he is dehydrated. We have had a very hot summer. Please give me some advice.

Hank is too old to say this indentation is due to current conditions. Could it be you just never noticed it before?

If you think he's dehydrated, soak him. Put him in a tub he can't climb out of and just let him stay there for a half hour or so. You can do this daily.

Thank you. No, the indentations weren't there. I've just noticed them this summer. It appears to be increasing in additional scutes. I'll try soaking him longer.

I see the photos but I'm not seeing what YOU'RE seeing.
